James “Jim” Duane Simonson Sr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on December 9, 2023, at the age of 78 surrounded by family. James was born on January 4, 1945, Jim was a lifelong resident of the Fargo Moorhead area, where he established his roots and created a legacy.
Throughout his life, Jim dedicated many years of loyal service to the City of Fargo, leaving a lasting impact on his community. His hard work and dedication were commendable, and he often went above and beyond to ensure the well-being of others.
Jim’s passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and fishing. He found solace and joy in these activities, cherishing the beauty of nature and the thrill of the chase. But above all, it was the time spent with his family that brought him the greatest happiness.
Jim had a contagious laugh that could light up any room, and his authenticity and honesty were truly admirable. He had an uncanny ability to make those around him feel at ease and was always there to lend a listening ear or offer a helping hand.
Family meant the world to Jim, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He took special pride in being a doting grandfather, delighting in teaching his grandchildren the art of mischief and reciting the Kool-Aid poem that would bring hearty laughter to all.
Jim’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his surviving relatives, including his devoted spouse, Butch, who shared in his joys and sorrows, cherishing a lifetime of memories together.
As we come together to honor Jim’s remarkable life, we fondly remember the moments shared, the stories woven, and the love that will forever bind us. In this time of grief, let us also celebrate the legacy of a man who touched so many lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

Butch, So sorry to hear of your loss. You and your family are in my prayers. May your memories be a comfort to you at this time.
You were always a special uncle. Although I didn’t get to see you as often as I liked, I really enjoyed your company when we were able to get together. You did have a great laugh and were fun to be around. You will be missed.
I was able to attend Jim & Butch’s wedding in Reno. Great times and great memories.
So wish I was there in person, but I will be their in spirit.
Much love to all

As a son-in-law, Jim filled the bill very well. It was always fun when I would stop and we’d go over hunting stories archery fishing and always have a few one liners and Jim’s laugh always deserved another story. The family will miss you Jim

Thoughts, prayers and love are with you all during this sad time.
Rest in peace Jim , you were so welcoming when I started Pulmanary rehab. Loved your laugh and smile. Always a kind word. Thank you for letting me be a part of your life.
Dear Butch, I had spent the 1950’s with Jim, as we attended Jefferson grade school and Agassiz junior high school. we became very good friends as we had spent many days at each other’s homes. I often reflect on those innocent enjoyable moments in our youth. I am very disappointed that I could not be present, to honor, my old friend Jim! I am so very sorry for you and your children. After all these 70 plus years, I still hurt inside for Jim and his family’s loss. Heartfelt Steve O
