James "Jim" Edward Lehman
October 24, 1941 ~ June 4, 2026
Jim’s service will be livestreamed and viewable below starting at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2026:
James (Jim) Edward Lehman, 84, of Fargo, North Dakota, passed into eternal rest in the arms of his savior Jesus, on June 4, 2026 surrounded by family at Edgewood Vista’s Glenn’s Place memory care unit, under the gentle care of Hospice.
Born on October 24, 1941, to Harold and Grace (Miller) Lehman, Jim grew up with a natural warmth and an industrious spirit. He graduated from Wahpeton High School in 1960. It was there that he met his high school sweetheart, Carol (Myers). The two were wed on April 17, 1961, embarking on a beautiful journey of love, partnership, and dedication that spanned 65 years.
Jim’s career in the grocery business began early, working at National Tea during high school through the DECA program. Following their marriage, Jim and Carol moved from Wahpeton to Jamestown after welcoming their daughter, Cherie. After their son, Cory, was born, the young family moved to Fargo, where Jim began a long, dedicated career with Super Valu. He started as a produce merchandiser and ultimately became the warehouse manager for produce in Fargo. It was also in Fargo that their youngest son, Cody, completed their family.
After retirement from Super Valu, Jim kept occupied with various part time jobs including moving cars at a local auction company; continuing to help out at Super Valu; and from 2006-2014. Jim helped the Betaseed Research crew plant and harvest sugarbeets. He made friends wherever he went.
Jim was a deeply devoted father who supported his three children unconditionally throughout their lives. He cherished family time, filling their years together with days at the lake, many trips to Oregon to visit family, attending school activities, and volunteering as a Boy Scout leader.
As the family grew, Jim enjoyed his role as a grandfather. He adored his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, showering each of them with love and affection. He was exceptionally kind and generous with his time, never missing an opportunity to connect with the people he loved. Known for his quick wit, Jim always had a joke to share, a bit of wisdom to offer, and a genuine desire to get to know everyone he met. He simply loved people.
In 2016, Jim was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Over the next ten years, as his memory gradually declined, he faced the disease with grace. Jim and Carol became inaugural members of the Memory Cafe of Fargo, an organization that provided tremendous support, community, and comfort to them both throughout his journey. During his time at Edgewood Vista, Jim’s vibrant personality shone through, earning him affectionate nicknames from the staff who grew to love him, including Jimmy, Big Jim, Jim Jim, and James.
The Lehman family extends their deepest gratitude to Fargo Hospice and the staff at Edgewood Vista for their compassionate, tender care of Jim in his final days.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Lehman; his daughter, Cherie (Rick) Lauzon, Oregon; his sons, Cory (Sheryl) Lehman and Cody (Sumi) Lehman; his sister, Judy Coleman; his 8 grandchildren – Breanna (Ryan) Leon, Trevor McLean, Jacob (Michelle) Von Bank, Maria (Corey) Flaa, Michelle (Aaron) Waggoner, Jason Lehman, Jake (Nicole) Lehman, Mickenze (Jayse) McLean; and his 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Grace Lehman and his brother Jerry Lehman.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the Memory Cafe of Fargo or HIA Hospice.
