James Morton Robbins Jr., age 91, passed away on July 3, 2026, while residing at SMP Health – St. Catherine North in Fargo, North Dakota.

James was born on July 13, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio, to James Morton Robbins Sr. and Fern Casto Robbins. On November 23, 1962, he married Charlotte Ann Comstock at St. Barnabas Church in Omaha, Nebraska, which was then an Episcopal parish. Together they shared more than 63 years of marriage.

James spent his career as a librarian. He worked at North Dakota State University and later as a medical librarian at the Neuropsychiatric Institute in Fargo before beginning a long career as a medical librarian at the VA in Fargo, where he retired. He also served two years in the U.S. Army, a chapter of his life he carried with quiet humility.

Raised in the Episcopal tradition, James later found a spiritual home in the Orthodox Church and became a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Fargo. His faith remained an important part of his life.

James will be remembered as a kind and deeply faithful man who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He remained curious throughout his life, especially about electronics, and found joy in model railroading, jazz, pipe organ music, watching hockey, and being always ready with a dad joke.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Ann Robbins, who also resides at SMP Health – St. Catherine North; his children, Charles Robbins and his wife, Krista, Thomas Robbins and his wife, Dora, and Jamalee Robbins; his granddaughter, Jerica Gholson, and her husband, James Gholson; and his great-granddaughter, Scarlett Gholson. He cherished sharing a July 13th birthday with his granddaughter Jerica and shared a special bond with Scarlett, often delighting in sharing stories and photos with her.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Morton Robbins Sr. and Fern Casto Robbins, and his sister, Margaret Jennens.
