November 28, 1928 ~ May 1, 2023
James R. “Bob” Brown, 94, of Fargo passed away May 1, 2023 at Sanford Health Hospital.
Bob was born in Roberts, Wisconsin to Fred and Helen Brown on November 28, 1928. He attended a rural one room school and completed the rest of his years of school in Roberts. Bob then moved to Fargo, ND to work at First National Bank and Trust Company (now Wells Fargo Bank). After a couple of years, he went to work in the branch office of M & H Gasoline Company and when that office closed, he was transferred to the main office in St. Paul, MN. While at M & H, he was drafted into the army for two years and served time in Korea. He returned to M & H after being honorably discharged and in September of 1954 he enrolled in a two year accounting course in Seattle, WA. Upon completion of the course, he started working for Amoco Oil Company in Minneapolis and stayed with Amoco for 30 years before retiring in March of 1986.
On September 7, 1959, he married Josephine Marthe of Esmond, ND at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo, ND. While with Amoco, they lived in Minneapolis, MN, Atlanta, GA, and Lenexa, KS. Josephine passed away in 1985. Bob moved to Fargo and later West Fargo in 1993. In 2019, he sold his home in West Fargo and moved to Independent Living at Touchmark Retirement Homes, Fargo.
In his retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling accompanied many times by his sister and brother. He visited all 50 states and several foreign countries in his lifetime. Bob volunteered at Emergency Food Pantry, Salvation Army, and his church, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Bob had a deep faith in God. He was always positive and supportive of his family and those around him. He lived a life of purpose, joy, and kindness.
Bob is survived by his sister, Donna Newcomb of Iowa Falls, Iowa; brother, John Brown of Marion, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly and appreciated the kindness they showed towards him.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and sister Jean Lyons.
Bob’s family would like to acknowledge and express thanks for the care and concern received from the healthcare providers and his niece, Bonnie during this challenging time.

So sorry to see him go. He was the kindest and funniest person. I so enjoyed visiting with him and bringing him sweets. He loved them. He lived a good life and will be so missed. Hugs and prayers to all family and friends. You were well loved by all . Will miss you Uncle Bob ❤️❤️
Uncle Bob, you will be very missed. You held a very special place in my heart. I will miss getting together and going out to eat and doing the Kiwanis pancake breakfast. I will also miss making treats for him. I know how much he enjoyed them.
Prayers and condolences to his family.
So sad to hear of our good friend, Bob leaving us. He was always so full of life and up for anything. We all agreed he was younger than any of us. I did not work with Bob at (First National,Norwest, Wells Fargo), but Margie brought him to our monthly lunch that the old timers retirees had started. We soon grew to love Bob. He was a wonderful conversationalist,
Great sense of humor, plus he had deep compassion for anyone that was Ill or having troubles. We will certainly miss his annual fall drive out to our place and Maplewood to see the Fall colors. We always ended up at our house eating pie and ice cream, which he loved. He certainly did live a life of purpose, joy, and kindness. We will miss him so much. God’s Speed Bob!

We were so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was a lovely man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. We always enjoyed visiting with him when he visited his nephew, Tim Newcomb and wife, Karen, in Kansas City. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a kindness towards all. They don’t make them like that anymore. He will be missed.
Wonderful service for an amazing person. Thank you for all you did for your family. Always looked forward to your cards and letters. We’ll cherish our last conversation we had with you. You reached out to us about the pictures and letter we had just sent you before our trip to Portugal. You were our first phone call in our new place there. It made our new home truly blessed forever.
