James Roy Meehan passed away on July 27, 2024, at his home, in Fargo, ND, under the care of hospice, at the age of 87 years old. For the last 5 years he suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Jim was born on February 11, 1937, in St. James, Minnesota to Jean (Steel) and Lloyd Meehan. He grew up and graduated high school in Mankato, Minnesota. Jim began his military career in the United States Marine Corp in 1955 and retired in 1976 after serving a combined twenty years from the USMC and the USN. He was very proud of his fellow servicemen and women and of his service to our country having deployed on three tours to Vietnam. He continued using his Navy Aviation Electronics Technician and Officer leadership skills in consulting work and teaching electronics at several institutes of learning.

Jim received a BA degree from Southwest State University. Throughout his life he enjoyed many sports and activities from dirt bikes and motorcycles to photography and art. He enjoyed being outdoors – fishing, hunting and hiking. He made a commitment to giving food and funds to support our local food banks and programs.

Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol D (Schuette) Meehan; his four children, Sheila Meehan, Stacy (Brad) Chandler, Shelley (Ray) Goodearl, and Shannon (Naomi) Meehan; numerous grandchildren and even more great grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen (Meehan) Ablott; a niece and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, Sean Selmer Meehan; a grandchild, Marlee Meehan; and parents, Jean (Steel) and Lloyd Meehan.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour prior.

Interment will take place at 1:00 PM Monday at the Fargo National Cemetery, near Harwood, ND.

  1. Prayers to Carol and Jim’s family on the loss of a kind man. Jim was a great person and will be missed by many. I enjoyed watching football with him and giving Carol a hard time about being a Packer fan.
