Jim passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home in Moorhead, that he and his brothers built, surrounded by his family members, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
James Duane Van Raden was born on January 28, 1936, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Norman and Florence (Trepanier) Van Raden. He grew up in Moorhead and received his education, later graduating from Moorhead High School.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Moorhead – he lived in Moorhead, worked in Moorhead, and raised his family there. Earlier in life, he worked with his brothers at a construction company, prior to starting his own business – Van Raden Enterprises. Jim was a skilled carpenter and took great pride and enjoyment in his work. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t built or fix.
Jim is survived by his children – Teresa Niergarth, Julie Hintz, Mike Wolf, Norma Huisheere, David Vise, Todd Vise, Andrea Oxton, and James Van Raden Jr.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings – Donald (Theresa) Van Raden, Charlie (Patricia) Van Raden, Richard (Sharon) Van Raden; and several other very dear relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings –Roy Van Raden, Vernon Van Raden, and Joyce Fleischman.
Jim had a “larger than life” presence and personality who lived an abundantly, adventurous full life his way.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 10 AM Friday, April 6, 2018 at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center in Fargo – visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday
