Janeal “Jan” Knox, a loving wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2024, at Sanford Health in Fargo at the age of 78. Born on September 15, 1945, in Moorhead, MN, Jan was the daughter of Maurice and Beatrice (Johnson) Giere.

Jan’s journey through life was marked by love, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1962 before embarking on a beautiful journey with her beloved husband, Stephen Knox. Jan and Stephen exchanged vows on September 5, 1964, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Fargo. Their love story traversed towns and states, as they lived in Helena, MT, West Fargo, Williston, and finally settled in Fargo.

Throughout her professional career, Jan held various positions before finding her calling as a billing manager for Promersberger Advertising, where she eventually retired. She embraced her work with diligence and professionalism, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jan found immense joy in spending time with her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren knew no bounds, and her presence at their birthday celebrations and family gatherings was cherished. She was the heart and soul of these joyous occasions, creating lasting memories and filling the room with her most memorable laughter.

Jan’s faith played a central role in her life. She was a devoted member of her church, actively participating in various youth programs and serving as a dedicated CCD teacher at Nativity. Her passion for spreading the word of God extended to attending bible study sessions and being an integral part of the women’s circle at her church. Jan’s presence within her faith community was an embodiment of her unwavering dedication and devout spirit.

Compassion and kindness were at the core of Jan’s being. She selflessly cared for her parents and in-laws as they navigated the challenges of aging, providing unwavering support and love during their time of need. Her thoughtfulness and generosity knew no bounds and touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen; children, Thomas Knox, Timothy Knox, Robyn (John) Woyte; grandchildren, John Knox, Stephen Woyte, Grace Woyte, Sophia Woyte; siblings, Daniel (Nancy) Giere; brothers-in-law, Monty Mulvaney, David Janssen; and many nieces and nephews.

  7. Aunty Neil will be greatly missed, she was so amazing and loved everyone, there are no words that could possibly describe her. If I had to try to describe her, I would use words like loving, caring, big heart, and so many more. I always loved going over to Aunty’s house and playing scrabble or badminton, and I will always have fun memories of hanging out in her garage with family, during one of the many occasions she hosted. Her love new no bounds, and now she can continue to spread that love in heaven. I’ve been to Giere family reunions, so I can only imagine how great they are in heaven!

  8. Her light, joy and gratitude will be greatly missed.
