  15. To all of Janet’s family and to all my Smithwick cousins,
It was quite a shock to hear of Jan’s death. I was living under the delusion that we were all going to live forever.
She was our leader and the best guide we could have had through our teen years. Even in adulthood she was a great example of how to conduct ourselves and live generously. I will miss my cousin! May she rest in peace.

  16. Years ago, I was Karen’s roommate in Play del Rey. I have many fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Hammer’s visits to California. The fun and laughter she brought with her from North Dakota was contagious. Karen, your mom was a bright and beautiful soul and I am so sorry for your loss! To Mr. Hammer and the rest of the family, you are in my prayers.

  17. To Fred, Janet’s Children and Janet’s Siblings, Our Deepest sympathies to all of you. Janet and I were class mates and she was always so friendly and helpful. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers . And of course we knew the Smithwick family from Baker. Also their Dad Johnie, worked for us on the farm for years, as did other members of the family. Frank and Judy Thompson

  18. Jan Hammer was the heart and soul of the Gluten Intolerance Group for many great years. She developed recipes and made them readily available to anyone who wanted them, led group meetings with a smile and encouragement, organized restaurant outings, and in general, was instrumental in helping hundreds of people learn how to thrive while remaining gluten free. It was an honor to know her. She was an amazing woman…. Rest in Peace, Jan.

  19. Fred Hammer and Family. Please accept my most Sincere Sympathy om the passing of your wife. You might not remember. but you replaced me at Nodak Mutual when I left there and went with the Boulger Funeral Home and moved to SD in 1971 I hope all is well. Matt Schatz
