Janice “Jann” Annette (Monson) Haugen, 74, Fargo, died, Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Bethany on University, Fargo, ND after battling cancer.

Jann was born in Spring Grove, MN on June 8, 1948. Jann attended the Locust One Room School House in Decorah, IA. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1966. She married and had two children, Scott, and Dawn. Jann was a lover of cooking and baking (especially for others). She was said to “out fish the guys” and was proud of that. She had a love for crafting and thought of others before herself.

She was preceded in death by, her beloved son, Scott Thomas Haugen, grandson, Matthew Reese Reitman, and her parents Alvin and Virginia (Anderson) Monson.

She survived by her daughter, Dawn O’Brien (Brady); grandsons, Kelsey Kutter and Donald James Overby of Snowflake, AZ, daughter-in-law Cheryl Haugen (Scott); grandsons, Mitch, Garrett, and Brett Haugen of Farmington, MN, her dear friend Mary Nelson of many years, caregiver/friend Liz Dabhi and her family, and her precious companion, Angel, the cutest and most spoiled chihuahua Jann had ever seen.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt shoutout to the staff at Bethany on University on Maplewood 3rd floor. Especially Chelsea, Claudia, Agnes, Lexi, who made Jann laugh, smile and love her remaining time here in Earth.

Also, Red River Valley Hospice, Amanda, Erica, and Julie were so amazing in caring for this woman so she could peacefully go be with her mom and son.

At the request of Jann, there will be no services.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My boys, Ben (9) and Lucas (8), loved Jann so much. She was always thinking of them. Even in the nursing home she would save the little packet of oyster crackers for my youngest because he loves them. I remember about 4 years ago, my oldest asked me, “why is Jann so kind?”
I will always remember Jann when I see a monarch butterfly as she talked about those reminding her of her beloved Scott. I will always remember her when I see purple flowers. She gave me strength when I didn’t expect it. I will miss having her to discuss things, complain about things, and get advice from one mother to another. She had so many ideas for me about things to do, bake, cook for my boys.

  2. God Bless Jann’s memory and may His Eternal Light Shine upon her. My deepest sympathies to my nieces and their families.✝️
