Janice passed away on Monday, November 1, 2022, at Farmstead Living in Moorhead, Minnesota, at the age of 84.

Janice Scheffler was born on April 21, 1938, at home in Wilkin County, Barnesville to Fred and Irene (Braton) Scheffler. She went to a one room school house thru the 2nd grade and then moved to Barnesville where she graduated from Barnesville High School in 1956. She attended St. Cloud State Teachers College majoring in Elementary Education until she transferred to NDAG, which is now NDSU, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics and a minor in Physical Science.

Janice was united in marriage to Wesley Motschenbacher on December 31, 1959, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Sabin, Minnesota. She taught school in Hope, Noonan, Crosby and Casselton – all in North Dakota. Her longest teaching position was in Casselton for 25 years. In Casselton, she taught all three of her children. Janice retired in 1996 and they moved to Dent, Minnesota which was their lake home. They spent winters in Harlingen, Texas. One of her favorite activities down there was playing in the bell choir. She was also involved in the HOST program, which stands for helping one child to succeed. She loved to travel and was in nine different countries, and in Hawaii five times. She also loved to jet ski, swim, quilt, golf, and be with friends. Her greatest joy was her nine grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her children – Jackie (Tom) Klepperich of Sheridan, WY; Bernie (Beth) Motschenbacher of Corona, SD; and Heidi (Mike) Volk of Broomfield, CO; her sisters – Ivy Olson, Sandy Heglie, Sharon Thomas and Linda Curfman; as well as her grandchildren – Brad, Kelli, Michael, Christian, Abigail, Jack, Carter, Grayson, Isabella; and her great-grandchildren – Tristan and Emmett.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wesley; and also her parents.
