Jan passed into the next phase of her life with God on May 17, 2023 of cancer.

Janice Joyce Landblom Nowatzki, age76, was born on July 14, 1946 at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND. Her parents are Joyce and James (Jim J H) Landblom. In 1964, Jan graduated from Shanley High School, Fargo, ND. She attended North Dakota State University and then took a year off to work at Sugar Bush Ski Resort in Vermont living in a country home 13 miles from the resort causing her need to hitchhike to and from work. She became known as ‘Dakota’ to many wonderful semi drivers, service drivers and locals. After returning to ND, she continued education at MSUM, Moorhead, MN and received a BA in English Education. She taught in Oconto, WI, enjoying attending Green Bay Packers games while Bart Star was their premier player. Adventure brought her to Escanaba, MI where Jan worked at P & H Harnischfiger as an office worker. John and Jan met on her vacation, and they married in June 1976. Although born and grew up in Fargo, Jan found life with John and their children on the farm in Langdon, to bring the best adventures. John seemed to think it was wonderful fun teaching a “city slicker” to herd cattle, fix fences, mow hay, stacking hay bales, drive cattle to the feedlots, etc. She enjoyed gardening and canning with friends or on her own. Some of her favorite activities included Identifying and watching the birds at their multiple feeders at both their home in Fargo and cabin at Eagle Lake, numerous memories of lunches with friends and her Suffering Sisters. Time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren, hikes in the grasslands and on a myriad of Colorado trails, travels with John as he shared about the geology of the land, making bread, rolls and jams made from fruit she grew, and reading, reading, and reading some more. While in Fargo, she completed Library Certification, and worked at the libraries at St. Anthony, Sullivan, Holy Spirit and Nativity schools, meeting many wonderful students, teachers and parents.

Jan was grateful for the support and treatment she received from Sanford staff for her leukemia. As she continued treatment for cancer, the nurses at the Roger Maris Infusion Center became some of her closest friends.

Jan is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Sandra, Elizabethton, TN; and sons, Douglas, Walcott, ND; Richard (Jenya) Fredericksburg, VA; Nicolaus (Nicole), Jamestown, ND; Zachary, Fargo, and by her brothers, J Rodney ( Sue), Jerome (Longmont) and by sister-in-law Aileen(Jim), sister-in-law, Cathy (Matt) Linzbach, Brainerd, MN; grandchildren, Joshua Feil, San Diego, CA; Alex (Miranda) Feil, Riverview, FL; Nathan Clary, Tristan Clary, Ian Clary, Elizabethton, TN; Noah Nowatzki, Jamestown, ND; great-grandchildren, Zoey Feil, Evan Feil, Washington, UT, Oliver Feil, Arthur Feil, Riverton, FL; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Jeff), Brian (Amanda), Emily (Noah), Jon Paul, Laura (Brian), Heather (Michael), Eric (Alise), Marc, Michael, Ryan, Philip(Michele), Hank (Debbie), Eddie, Matt ( Brenda), Suzanne (Jay) Michael (Anne),and Tim, Tom, David, Debbie (David).

  16. John and Family,
I went to high school with Jan. It wasn’t until several class reunions later that I really got to know Jan. She would come down to Florida with Connie, Marilyn, and Suzanne for a brief escape from the NorthhDakota winter to visit Marvyl and I. The stories abounded and I that’s when I discovered Jan’s amazing sense of humor. I will always remember Jan as a caring and loving soul. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed. Rest in peace ✝️

  17. I’m so sorry to hear about Jan. I will always remember her as FFA’s den mother. One particular memory is when we went to Fargo for Little I and John and Jan took us over to see her folks. And on the way back to where we were staying we drove by a bank sign that flashed “if there were more self starters the boss wouldn’t have to be a crank.” Jan was definitely a self starter! She will be missed by so many. My deepest sympathies to John and family.

  29. I would like to extend my sympathy to the family. I had the privilege and joy of getting to know and work with Jan at the Fargo Catholic schools. It was so pleasant to see her smiling face, share laughter, and have her as a friend. We drifted apart after leaving the schools – however, just a short while ago I got to see Jan at the Fargo Library! We both laughed at that!! Two retired librarians meeting after years – in the library! It was so good to give her a hug, and chat for a few minutes. Of course we said we needed to get together for coffee, but it wasn’t to be. I am thankful I got to know Jan and have the blessing of her friendship. I will hold the family in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless you all. Marla Anderson
