Jean G. McClure

Jean G McClure, 96, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at home with her children by her side. Dying at home was Jean’s last wish and it was truly a blessing for all of us.

Jean Gertrude McClure was born October 22, 1929, to Garnet and Gertrude Fry in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jean graduated from Winnipeg General Hospital Training School for nurses in 1952. Mom’s nursing training brought her great joy her whole life.

Jean married John T. McClure on January 11, 1957. They made their home in Winnipeg until moving to ND for dad’s job in the 1960s. That move was hard on Mom but she did what good wives do. They raised their family in Fargo, and they were entrepreneurs who built a very successful rental property business. With that business, Mom and Dad taught us about the value of hard work. In 1985, after John’s retirement from Versatile and Jean’s retirement from the rental business, they began spending their winters in Longview, Texas, near Garnet and Melinda. Their summers were spent in their lake home on Prairie Lake near Pelican Rapids. In 2014, Mom gave up Texas, and started spending winters in Cape Canaveral, Florida near Margie and Dick. We thought Mom would live forever.

As a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother mom taught us how to be resourceful and resilient. She modeled contentment for us in everything she did.

Jean is survived by her sons Garnet (Melinda) McClure, Frankston, Texas, Clifford (Dee) McClure, Polk City, Iowa, her daughters Marjorie (Dick) Smith, Shoreview, MN and Julie McClure (Tom Kraft), Fargo, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her sisters Helen Wallin and Ruth Epler.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 24th, 2026, at 11:00 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Pelican Rapids, MN.

Memorials preferred to HIA Hospice or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
