Jennifer Labish, 72, of Moorhead, MN passed away on December 4th, 2024 at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo surrounded by her loving family.

Jennifer Edith Short was born in Moorhead, MN on August 6th, 1952 to Genevieve (Lura) and Roger Short. She grew up in the ND and MN area, graduating from Barnesville High School in 1970.

In 1971 Jennifer married Charles Labish in Barnesville, MN. They moved to Moorhead where Jennifer worked for Northwestern Bell in Fargo until starting their family. Once their two daughters were in school, Jennifer went to work at Minnesota State University Moorhead and later MSCTC – Moorhead, retiring in 2015.

Jennifer enjoyed decorating for the holidays, spring yard work, spending time with friends, sister sleepovers, and the “occasional” keno machine. She loved marathon shopping with her daughter, Jaime, and hitting garage sales/thrifting with her daughter, Tracy. Before the snow even melted or the campgrounds opened in the spring, Jennifer had her and Chuck’s summer camping calendar all planned out. Whether it was just the two of them, with her sisters and their spouses, or with her daughter’s family, Jennifer enjoyed camping trips…especially the annual Labish Family Camping Weekend!

Family was the most important thing in Jennifer’s life. She felt blessed in so many ways. Having a husband who showed her everyday how much he loved her. Raising two beautiful daughters who brought her enormous joy and pride. Adoring four awesome grandchildren who provided endless happiness. She was grateful for having a family who was always there for each other and friends that she felt privileged to have had in her life.

Jennifer is survived by her husband of 53 years, Chuck; daughter Jaime (Aaron) Kelsch of Moorhead; daughter Tracy (Brandon Kobiela) Dobos of Fargo; grandchildren: Anna Kelsch, Zach Kelsch, Tyler Isabell, and Jeremiah Dobos all of Moorhead; sisters: Robin (Dianne) Short of Detroit Lakes, Laura (Scott) Derke of Detroit Lakes, Leslie Curtis of Fargo; brother: Jerry (Renae) Short of Detroit Lakes; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Peggy Zitzow; brothers Danny Short and Roger Short.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Condolences to all of Jennifer’s family and friends.
She was a sweet loving beautiful lady.
    She will be heartfully missed.
May we all someday find peace among the grief.
    Much love to you ❤

  2. Our hearts break with the loss of Jennifer. Many prayers and hugs for Chuck, Jen’s daughters and their families. Life will not be the same without you my friend.

  3. Condolences to all of Jennifer’s family and friends. Chuck, my old friend, I’m very sorry for your loss. I hope the memories of good times with Jennifer will help ease your pain.

  4. Jennifer was one of the first people my roommate and I met when we lived in Dahl Hall at MSU. She was always so friendly and hard working. A few weeks later, my roommate and I joined a sorority. When she noticed the sorority symbols on our dorm room door, she bursted with pride to share that her daughter Jaime was an officer of the same one. Her love and pride for her daughter was so evident. As I got to know Jaime and Jennifer more over the years, I got to know the warm, genuine person she was. She truly loved and cared for her family. Sincere condolences to the whole Labish family.

  5. Jennifer, you will be greatly missed -your smile and ability to light up any room you walked into was a gift you brought to the lives of so many. We pray that you are no longer suffering and know we carry you with us each day.

  6. Laura, Robin and Families, so sorry for your loss. Your uncle Bob was married to my mom Georgie. I remember Jenny from high school, she was a year ahead of me, she had the most beautiful long brown hair! Seeing her and chuck together was like they were truly meant for each other. As I hear they complimented each other through their 50+ years of marriage. May God bless, sending you all prayers.

  7. Jaime & family
Sending condolences and prayers to all of you. I just pulled your Melting Moments cookie recipe to bake. Now I see this. May the memories help the healing over time.
    Sharon
