Jerald “Jerry” C. Hennen, Fargo, died July 7, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Jerry was born June 4, 1940 to Ray and Myrtle Hennen in Madison, MN. He attended school in Madison, graduating in 1958. After graduation he went to San Francisco, CA where he worked at McCann Erickson Advertising. Jerry moved backed to Madison and attended Brown College in Minneapolis, MN and graduated with honors in 1962. He met Jeanette Thielges there and married her in August of 1962. He began his first job in radio at WBEL, Beloit, WI as an evening announcer. After a year the couple moved to Pipestone, MN and then to Luverne, MN where Jerry worked at KLOH and rapidly rose up the ladder to sports director and sales manager. In 1970 he was offered the general manager position at KDMA in Montevideo, MN. He was soon named vice president of the company. Jerry bought a FM station in Clarinda, Iowa in 1980, and sold the station two years later, moving to Huron, SD where he managed KOKK. In 1982 he built KMGM FM and moved back to Montevideo, MN running a family owned and operated station. Jerry sold the station three years later and moved to Grand Forks, ND where he was general sales manager for three stations. He then built KKSR FM in St. Cloud, MN. In 1997 Jerry started his own broadcasting consultant business, Common Sense Radio. He was honored by the Minnesota Broadcasters Association for 50 years in broadcasting in June of 2007. Jerry and Jeanette have enjoyed time with family at both Lake Minnewaska in the earlier years and on Rush Lake in Ottertail, MN. Jerry retired in 2002 and moved to Fargo, ND. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Hennen, Fargo; his children, Scott (Maria) Hennen, Fargo, Jill (Paul) Westerholm, Fargo, Nancy Hennen-Longie, Fargo, and Chris Hennen, Fargo; brother, Roger (Carole) Hennen, Bonaire, Ga; sister, Marcella “Tootsie” (Jim) Welberg, Anoka, MN; brother, Bobby (Vicky) Hennen, Maple Grove, MN; sister, Darlene (Loren) Larson, New Hope, MN; sister, Jackie Chmielewski, Plymouth , MN; and seven grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Myrtle Hennen; infant children, John and Jennifer, his brother, Dennis; and his sister, Rose. The Funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Fargo, ND. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 with a Prayer Service at 5:00pm at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, and one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross North Cemetery, Fargo. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial are Preferred. Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.
