Jerald "Jerry" D. Nissen

jerald

Jerald Dean Nissen, a beloved husband, dad, grandad, and brother, passed away October 27, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center surrounded by family. Jerry was born on April 16, 1954, to Laritz and Hazel Nissen in New Effington, South Dakota.

Throughout his life, Jerry found joy and fulfillment in simple pleasures. He married the love of his life, Vicki, in 1992, and together they were blessed with two children, Tiffany and Johnathan. Jerry dedicated 23 years of his career at Maintenance Engineering.
Jerry enjoyed watching classic western shows like “Rifleman” and “Bonanza,” along with football and NASCAR. He was also known to spend endless hours on YouTube watching tractor-pull videos. Nature held a special place in Jerry’s heart, and he often sought refuge in his garden or tending to the yard. Trips to Duluth were a favorite pastime, providing him with moments of connection with the great outdoors.

Above all, Jerry cherished his family and grandchildren. He delighted in spending time with them, often taking leisurely walks in the park or sharing in their laughter and play. Jerry was never short of a dad joke and it was always a guarantee he’d want to make sure to check your oil.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicki; children, Tiffany (Rhett Halberg), Johnathan Nissen; grandchildren, Layton and Stetson; siblings, Daryl (Holly), Linda (Russel) Veflin, Ronald (Jayne), Margaret Anderson, Lucy (Bruce) Kadoun, Kathy Kluge; brother in law, Duane Haus; best furry companion, Waylon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Haus; and brothers in law, Jeff Kluge and Jason Severson.

  2. Sorry to hear Jerald’s passing it seems like it was just yesterday we were in school and Jerald was a very good friend condolences to the family wish we would have stayed in touch

    • Some of my favorite memories growing up were made with my Uncle Jerry and Aunt Vicki. I remember how supportive Jerry was when we lost my dad, Jason. Jerry showed kindness and strength during a most difficult time in my life. I believe my dad is with him now, guiding him through this transition, just as Uncle Jerry helped us when we needed it most. His love and memory will be in our hearts forever.

  3. Vicki, Tiffany & Jonathan & family, To let you know thoughts & prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. Jerry was such a kind man. Always enjoyed our little chats at the dental office. Wishing you peace.
