Jerome John Posch was born on October 22, 1926, in rural Argusville, the son of John and Sophie (Bzdok) Posch. Jerome, known to everyone as Joe, grew up on the family farm near Argusville, and received his education in Argusville. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during WWII, where he was stationed in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to North Dakota.

Jerome was united in marriage to Dolores Shirek on January 7, 1950, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fargo. They made their home in Gardner, North Dakota, before moving to Argusville where they raised their family – daughters, Diane and Renee. Joe worked as the manager for the Argusville Farmers Elevator until its closing, then began working at the Elevator in West Fargo until his retirement.

Throughout the years, Joe and Dolores were active members of St. William’s Catholic Church in Argusville. Joe served as mayor for Argusville, played softball with the Argusville Team, was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved his time gardening and canning, and in later years enjoyed his time playing Bingo at the Harwood American Legion. Joe and Dolores enjoyed spending many summers at Pelican Lake, Pelican Rapids, MN, and were associate members at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church near Detroit Lakes, MN.

Dolores passed away on April 29, 2008, and Joe continued to make his home in Argusville until the past year, when he moved to St. Catherine South in Fargo, due to health concerns.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Don) Cunningham of Chester, SD; and Renee (Charles) Foster of Oakes, ND; his grandson, Austin Foster of Oakes, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie; his wife, Dolores; his infant daughter, Elaine; an infant son, Kevin; and his siblings – Evangeline (Jim) Larson, and Leonard (Pat) Posch.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I remember Joe, the gentle giant, as he easily loped around the bases as he hit yet another home run. I remember that so well. I also remember that he was a kind-hearted, caring man. He will be missed.

  2. Joe was a real gentleman, I always enjoyed visiting with him when Andy and I would see him. I was fortunate enough to know Leonard and Pat and their sister Vangie as well, they were all so welcoming, a truly good family. Rest in peace, Joe. Marlys Guttormson

  3. Diane and Renee,

So very sorry for your loss. I remember Joe and Dolores from spending time at Bayview Shores on Pelican Lake. He was so good with my two daughters. Such a kind and gentle man. Hugs to you.
