Jim Fankhanel Hillsboro, North Dakota James Richard Fankhanel died on Friday evening, March 31, 2006, of a heart attack in his Hillsboro home. Jim was born in Hillsboro, ND on June 11, 1943 and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He worked the majority of his life at Taft Elevator in rural North Dakota and American Crystal Sugar ? Hillsboro. Jim served in the National Guard and was active in the Hillsboro American Legion, serving as Post Commander from 1985 until 1987. Jim will be remembered by many for his endless practical jokes and one-liners. After 27 years of sobriety, he also became known for brewing his own sun tea and having a diet Coke in hand. Jim was very proud of his two sons, JJ (Amy) of Fargo, ND; and Eric (Kelsey) of Grandin, ND. He found great joy in his six grandchildren, Miranda, Autumn, Mikayla, Evan, Tajah, and Zachary. Jim is also survived by his four older siblings and their families, Delores Ebert of Fargo; Buster (Joyce) Fankhanel of Hillsboro; Lois Fankhanel of Mandan, ND; and Butch (Sue) Fankhanel of Sun City, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Julia (Ouse) Fankhanel; and a niece Kerry Dolan.
