Joan C. Bodelson, 81, 1514 7th Street North, Fargo, died August 15, 2003 in her home. Joan Catherine Shepard, the daughter of Benjamin & Louise (Lautz) Shepard, was born on January 29, 1922 on a farm near Halliday, North Dakota. She moved at the age of two to Ludden, North Dakota where she lived until moving to Oakes, North Dakota and then to Edmonds, North Dakota and Wimbledon, North Dakota where she graduated from high school. She then attended Jamestown Business College. After graduation she moved to Kennedy, Minnesota where she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Kiene Trading Company. Joan joined the Army in 1943 and served as a Women?s Air Corps recruiter in Youngstown, Ohio. She joined the North Dakota Job Service Department in 1946 in Oakes, North Dakota and then moved to Bismarck where she lived until 1949. Joan married D.C. (Bodie) Bodelson in Wimbledon, North Dakota on April 18, 1949. The couple lived in West Point, New York and San Antonio, Texas before moving to Jamestown, North Dakota, and then to Fargo in 1958. She began working for the I.R.S. in 1966. She worked there until her retirement in 1984. Joan worked for the State Tax Department until retiring once again in 1990. She became a volunteer tax consultant with A.A.R. P. She was known as ?The Tax Lady.? She was preceded in death by her husband, Bodie, in 2001. She is survived by her children: Jess (Sheila) Bodelson, Shawnee, Kansas, Eric Bodelson, Renton, Washington, Melissa Bodelson, Fargo, North Dakota, Mary Eggleston, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Benjamin Bodelson, Chicago, Illinois ; two sisters: Rosemary Gruebele, Burnsville, Minnesota and Janice Morasko, Glendive, Montana; 7 grandchildren. Memorial Mass:12 Noon Wednesday at Church of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Fargo Prayer Service: 7 pm Tuesday at Boulger Funeral Home Inurnment: Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
