Joanie was born at St Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD on September 5, 1956, to Richard and Mary Angela Edgar. She grew up on the family farm near Rockham, SD attending school in Faulkton, SD. Anyone that knew Joanie described her as a kind, compassionate, loving, caring, and extremely genuine person. After retirement she enjoyed travel to the Holy Land and Florida in the winters. Her peaceful place was found at their lake cabin on Clitherall Lake, MN, where she loved to garden and bake for her family and friends. Family was an important part of Joanie’s life; she was especially proud of her 6 grandkids, making every effort to attend all of their activities. She had many friends over the years at work and both Nativity Church in Fargo, ND and Our Lady of the Lake parish in Battle Lake, MN.

Joanie is survived by her husband, Dan Gronso; daughters, Corie (Brian) Walker of Fargo, and Trisha (Aaron) Mesna of Sauk Rapids, MN; grandsons, Keagan and Gabriel Walker; granddaughters, Clare and Adeline Walker, Lucy and Lily Mesna; brothers, Mark (Pam) and Bruce (Leslie) Edgar, both of Rockham, SD; sisters, Janet (Jerry) Eaton of Redfield, SD, Chris (Rod) Pater of Sioux Falls, SD, Carrie (Jeff) Gutenkauf of Pierre, SD, and Jill (Roger) Nikolas of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Joanie was always so nice every time I ever interacted with her. From the times when Mary gave me allergy shots at their house as a kid which exposed me to the whole family. And the whole Edgar clan from top to bottom has been special to the Anglin family. Ever since Dick started calling me Peck and the boys to this day still do and are the only ones who do. Joanie and I would run into each other quite a bit when she lived in Aberdeen. Always enjoyed those chance encounters. My sincere condolences to the Gronso & Edgar families. Greg Anglin

  2. Dan, Corie, Trisha and families,
Sending our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your dear loved one. I (Pam) met Joan through a bone builders exercise class. She was the sweetest lady. I always enjoyed our short visits after class.
Joanie was taking away too young. I pray God can give you Strength and peace to know she is in fellowship with our Heavenly Father. She’s no longer in Discomfort/pain. My heart truly breaks for all of you.
    Cherish all those treasured memories💖

  3. So very sorry to hear of your loss. Joan always had a smile and encouraging words. I knew her in nursing school and worked many years with Mary Angela at the hospital. She will be missed.

  4. I first met Joanie when she became our recovery room nurse in our oral surgery department at Meritcare Clinic in Fargo. I soon was very aware of the depth of her personality. She was the type of person that you could become fast friends with, absolutely lovely, very caring, humble, funny and compassionate. She was also very professional and all of these qualities rolled into one person made her a good friend, co-worker, and nurse. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.

  5. To The Entire FAMILY.
    I am so SORRY.

PRAYERS AND HUGS FOR ALL YOUR FAMILY.

  6. God is receiving an Angel in this beautiful soul. We love you and cherish each moment we have had with you.
    God Bless you

  7. Dear Dan, Trisha and Corrie. We extend to you our heartfelt prayers and sympathies on Joanie’s passing. At the same time we celebrate her life and the memories she left behind. We will always cherish the memories we had when we met our “best friends “ back in college and how that blossomed into two children, grandchildren and 47 years of marriage for the two of you. Joanie touched us all with her love, her smile, her sense of humor and her life.

  8. This world has lost a very special person. But she now has the angel wings we all knew she just had hidden while on earth. For Joanie was just the kind of person we would all aspire to be; kind, talented, compassionate , loving, humble, a true servant of her Lord. She and Dan were our back door neighbors for 20 years and we couldn’t have asked for better. Our hearts go out to you Dan and to your daughters and their families. Our dear Joanie left us much too soon but rest assured you couldn’t have a more perfect angel to watch over you and greet you someday in Heaven.
    Our love and prayers,
    Ray and Pat

  9. Gronso and Edgar Families
I am so sorry to hear of Joanie’s passing. I would like to pass on prayers and condolences to the families. Joanie was a High School classmate of mine. I always remember Joanie as the girl with the big smile. From what I understand she passed that smile on to many people throughout her lifetime here on this earth. I know she was dearly missed at our most recent class reunion, and I am sure her classmates in their own way said a prayer for her as she was going through a difficult time. I know she is now smiling down on all her family and friends.

  10. Dan and Family
Joanie was the kindest soul. I will always remember how all of the grandkids loved to be at the lake and Joanie was always in the midst playing. She will be missed. Praying for comfort and peace.

  11. To the Edgar and Gronso families, I am so sorry to hear that Joanie has passed away. Her sister Janet and I were classmates and friends, so I got to know Joanie and the rest of the Edgar family. I always enjoyed seeing Joanie and having a catch-up chat at the all-school reunions. She was always kind, smiling, and fun. May God help you with this loss, and heal your hearts. Joanie was a child of God, and she’ll be greatly missed.

  12. I worked with Joanie at Hospice of the Red River Valley. She was a great nurse and person. My sympathies to you on her passing. Treasure the memories and celebrate her life!

  13. Joanie was a special person and Penny and I were blessed to live next door to you for over 20 years in Fargo. Joanie is with our Lord & maker and flies with the Angels.

  14. Our prayers are with you Danny and your family. Joanne was such a wonderful loving person. She is now among other angels.

  15. Tears and hugs go out to the Gronzo and Edgar families,
Joanie, Dan and girls lived across the road from us in Aberdeen and we worked together at St. Lukes. After the move to Fargo, time would pass and when we were together next, nothing would change, we would just pick up where we left off! She was and will always be, a very special person. It was so obvious that she was very special to our Lord, as He was to her. May you Rest In Peace friend.

  16. Joanie will be missed by all who knew her. She was a radiant soul, and kind and thoughtful person who always had a smile. Rest in peace Joanie.

  17. So sorry for your loss. Joanie was a fun, caring, loving person. Shari & I are praying for you and the entire family.

  18. I am so sorry for the loss of Joanie. She was such an all around lovely person. Prayers to the family and all who knew her.
