Joanne Haugen

Joanne D. Haugen, 72, Fargo passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 in her home.

Joanne was born December 21, 1938 in Halstad, MN to John and Mabel (Iverson) Knutson and was raised on a farm near Nielsville, MN.  She lived there until she graduated from Halstad High School in 1956.  After high school Joanne moved to Fargo and graduated from Interstate Business College.  She worked as a secretary for the Dean of Students at NDSU for 5 years.

She married Arnold Haugen on March 3, 1962, and they moved to Hillsboro, ND.  There she worked as Traill County Deputy Auditor for 19 years and then was elected as County Auditor for 12 years. She retired in April of 1995 and later moved to Fargo.

Not having any children of her own, Joanne especially enjoyed all her nieces and nephews and made frequent telephone calls to check up on them.  She appreciated the many special friends she made in Hillsboro over the years and made a point of keeping in touch with them.  She loved her years at Park Avenue Apartments.  She felt fortunate to again meet some great people there and looked forward to nickel dice and coffee time with them.

Joanne is survived by her sisters, Mavis (Vernon) Haugstad, Cummings ND, Sonja (Paul) Beltz, Moorhead, MN; brothers, Duaine Knutson, Halstad MN, John (Sharon) Knutson, Moorhead MN, sisters-in-law, Lois Weigelt, Fargo, ND, Ruth Haugen, Shelly, MN; nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arnold, two children, and one sister, Beverly Martinson.

Memories Timeline

  1. Fountain Hills ArizonaI am sorry to hear of the passing of this lovely woman. She married into the Haugen family, and immediatedly became one of us. My parents so enjoyed the times when Arnold and JoAnne came to Grenora for celebrations. May God bless the memory of the life of Joanne Haugen.
