Joanne Jones

joanne jones

Joanne Ruth Jones, age 77, of Hillsboro, ND, peacefully entered into the presence of her Savior on September, 11, 2012, in Fargo, ND.

Joanne was the second child of Herman and Irene Holzkamm, born on November 23, 1934, in Hillsboro, ND, where both she and her older brother Donald were raised. Graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1952, she then attended business school in Fargo. On June 15, 1953, Joanne married Charles (Chuck) H. Jones at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Their daughter Lisa was born several years later. They made their home in Hillsboro. Joanne worked for Selective Service for eighteen years in Hillsboro and later in Fargo. She then worked for DOE and ROTC at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

Joanne’s relationship with Jesus Christ and her family were the most important things in her life. She had a tender heart with the gift to notice and help people who were hurting or in need.  She was selfless in giving of herself. After retiring, she devoted her life to caring for her family and volunteering extensively.  She was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a devoted member of the choir for more than sixty years. She was involved with Hillsboro Women’s Club, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Plummer House/Traill County Museum & their annual Christmas Extravaganza dinners, organizing multiple Hillsboro celebration parades, the Hillsboro Red Hats, various Bible studies, in singing with a local trio, and many other activities.

A voracious reader, Joanne loved researching and learning about everything.  She loved all types of music, but particularly singing and playing piano. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and cherished being with family, especially at the family lake cabin in Minnesota.  She loved writing letters and sending cards.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 59 years, Chuck Jones (of Hillsboro, ND), her daughter and son-in-law Lisa & Charlie Vein, granddaughters Laura Vein (Alex Jackson), Jennifer Vein, and Michelle Vein.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Herman & Irene Holzkamm, and her brother and sister-in-law Don & Virginia Holzkamm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, given to the choice of the donor, are preferred.

I worked with Joanne during her stint at UND AROTC. She was truly a woman of poise and knowledge. I know in the short time I worked with her, the most important things to her were her family her parents, Chuck, Lisa and granddaughters. She talked non-stop about them.
