Joel passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Eagan, MN, at the age of 62.
Joel was born March 25, 1962, the son of Ronald and Gloria (Lider) Porter in Hillsboro, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Grandin, ND where he attended school, graduating from Dakota High School in Arthur, ND. He continued his education at Moorhead Technical College where he received his degree in Refrigeration. Joel worked in that field for a few years before returning to where his heart was – on the family farm, working the land and tending to the cattle. Joel loved the farm and worked on the dairy operation with his dad for many years. After Ronald retired from milking, Joel kept busy raising a few cattle on his own. Joel was active on the Hunter Grain Elevator Board for many years.
Joel is survived by his parents, Ronald and Gloria Porter of Grandin, ND; his brother, Mark (Donna) Porter of Hunter, ND; and many other very dear relatives including aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joel was preceded in death by his grandparents – Keith and Bernice Porter, Henry and Gina Lider, and Herman and Nora Engh.

Joel was such a nice guy! He made my job easy as as a customer, was so easy to please. I really liked him and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My prayers are with you all during this time.
