Resided in: Fargo, North Dakota

John Sholl peacefully passed away on May 31, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born in Fargo, North Dakota, on June 19, 1955, John’s early years were spent on a farm in Kindred. The family later moved to Fargo in 1963. He graduated from Fargo North High School in 1973. In 1979, he married Vicki Schale, and they had three children: Addie, Andrew, and Mathew. The family eventually settled on Lake Eunice in Minnesota for several years so John could join his family’s business, Dakota Hose and Equipment, in the late 1980s. John retired in 2017 and moved to Arizona with his partner, Sondra, until her passing. Later returning to Fargo.

John cherished his friends and family and loved to laugh and have a good time. He was passionate about music, enjoyed sweets, and particularly loved Liz’s deviled eggs. He was generous, sentimental, a creature of habit, and an atrocious driver, as anyone who has ridden in his car can attest. The Sholl family spent many years together at their family cabin on Pelican Lake, Minnesota, which was central to many cherished memories and relationships.

John was a devoted son, brother, father, and grandfather. I have heard many stories and observed how helpful he was to his mother. He and his grandson Jacob were very close and spent a lot of time together, even living together for a while in Arizona.

I don’t believe he would want us to make a big fuss about services. However, we would like to honor him by celebrating with those who loved him. Please join us at the Sanctuary in Fargo, ND, on June 18, 2026, from 5:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. We believe that drinks, food, and good times are the best way to celebrate him. Refreshments and snacks will be available.

He is survived by his children, Addie, Matt, and Andrew (all from Fargo), his grandson Jacob (from Moorhead, MN), his siblings Bill(Charlotte Berg) Sholl (from Mesa, AZ), Eric Sholl (from Pelican Rapids, MN), and Liz(Steve) Loge (from Fargo). He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Norma, his brother, Dan Sholl, and his partner of many years, Sondra Warner.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to those who cared for him in his final years.

In lieu of cards and flowers, the family requests that a tree be planted in his honor or a donation be made to HIA Hospice.
