John B. Markey, age 54, 2302 9th Street North, Fargo, died Thursday, February 10, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
John B. Markey was born August 23, 1950, in Fargo, ND, the son of John W. ?Pete? and June Markey. He grew up in Fargo, graduating from Fargo North High School in 1968. He was married to Debbie Jellum on April 12, 1969, in Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo. The couple made their home in Fargo. In 1970, he began working for NSP, later known as Excel Energy. At the time of his death, he was foreman in the gas meter shop for Excel.
He played hockey during high school, and continued his love for the sport after high school by playing for the Fargo Blazers from 1968-1973. He later served as a referee for the North Dakota State Hockey Tournaments. John remained an avid fan of the sport, especially when his son began playing hockey. John also enjoyed hunting in North Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. He loved fishing, and kept a boat on Lake of the Woods for many years. He also enjoyed motorcycle trips with his wife and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Fargo; and twin granddaughters, Rhiannon and Belladonna, affectionately referred to by John as Annie and Belle. He is also survived by his parents, John W. ?Pete? and June Markey of Fargo; his brother, Jim (Anita) Markey of Moorhead, MN; his sister, Peggy Markey of Fargo; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Bernice Amstrup of Fargo; brothers-in-law, Paul Amstrup and Pete Amstrup; and special nieces, Allyssa and Paige.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
