John Russell Johnson, beloved son, devoted husband and loyal friend passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the age of 31. John was born to Don and Shelda (Shoultz) Johnson on October 27, 1983 in Redfield, SD. He graduated from Redfield High School in 2002 and attended Northern State University. John was a talented salesman and passionate about the industry he worked. While early in his career, he took a post in Fargo, and quickly made it his home. He established business colleagues and long time friends across the greater Midwest selling for a myriad of wholesalers and distributors. John married his best friend and partner, Laura, on October 7, 2011. Together they built a family, home, and established lifelong friends. The two adopted Caddy, a small puppy, in August 2013. John was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed swinging his clubs with the ‘old men’s’ golf group, weekend rounds with his best friends, and invites into the many tournaments during the summers. He would travel every fall to his home in Redfield to hunt with friends.  John also spent much time on the water trying to pull his catch of the day. John was preceded by his father, Don Johnson; grandparents; uncles; aunts; and cousin, Aaron. He is survived by his wife, Laura Johnson (Fargo, ND); mother, Shelda Johnson (Redfield, SD); siblings, Brian Johnson (Alexandria, MN), David Johnson (Portland, ME), Clara Anne McFarland (Portland, OR), Susan Evans (Portland, OR) and Jennifer Eggars (Walla Walla, WA); seven beloved nephews; and many cousins and friends. 16. He was so very, very special
and was so from the start.
You held him in your arms
    But mainly in your heart.
And like a single drop of rain
    That on still waters fall
    His life did ripples make
And touched the lives of all.
He’s gone to be with angels
    In heaven up above.
    So keep your special memories
    And treasure them with love.
    Although your special loved one
Was with you just a while
He will live on in your heart
    With a sweet remembered smile.

    Shelda and Brian,
Our hearts and prayers are with you in your time of sorrow.

    Verna, Ron and family

  19. Shelda, Bill and Brian, I am so sorry for you loss.. Aw Johnny always brightened up everything when he was growing up and any time he came home.. I do not ever remember a time when he would see me and would come right over even if I was leaving or just driving up.. There he was giving me my bear hugs!! I will miss that and not seeing him until we all travel down that road. Rest now Johnny.. I LOVE YOU! I am so grateful to have you all as my neighbors!

  20. John will be missed. Loved the big smile and always made me laugh. My prayers are with you all.

  21. So very sorry for the loss of your husband and son! Our son, Matthew, has been a close friend of John’s since college. They were in each other weddings. John was like a brother to him. We met him years ago. He was one of those character that everyone liked. May he rest in peace and may the good Lord help you guys through this loss.

  22. I was introduced to John through my son Tyler Livingston…..He instantly stole my heart…..A gentleman, fun, giving, and just so easy to talk to…..I am blessed to have gotten to know him….even though for a brief time……I will close with this; what is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a Buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset…..until we meet in Heaven John…..

  23. John was the most genuine and caring individual I have had the pleasure of calling my friend. He would always approach me, after not seeing each other for a while, with a hug and a pleasant comment. I cannot think of a time I saw John without a smile on his face. His laugh was easy to pick out in a room and contagious. You couldn’t help but laugh or smile when he was in your presence. The world will have fewer laughs and fewer great memories without John, but heaven will have that many more as a result of his passing. John’s light hearted perspective on life is a great indication of who he was as a person, and I plan to adopt his charismatic attitude and demeanor into my own personal mind set in order to better myself and my relationships. John will continue to stay with us for many years to come, as we remember his jokes and tell stories of John that will lift our spirits, as we celebrate the life of a truly outstanding individual.

  24. Shelda and Family,

So sorry for your loss, John was like a son to me, I have fond memories of him. He always will have a special place in my heart. He was the type of person who would do anything he could to help a person out. I saw a lot of his father in him. I will always remember the times he would just stop by to say hi. Now he will be able to golf and fish with his Dad. He will be missed greatly.

  25. To the family of John: Sending my thoughts and prayers with you at this sorrowful time. John always had a smile on his face, and was so outgoing. He had such a friendly demeanor to him, I’ve only seen him a few times since High School, but he was easy to pick up a conversation with. I hope you find peace in all the happy times you had with him. Many Prayers. Amanda (Swanson) Evans. “Class of 02”
