John L. Lucier II, of Fargo, ND, passed away suddenly on October 3, 2023, at Essentia Health, surrounded by family.

John was born on October 15, 1940, in Belcourt, ND, at the Belcourt Hospital to John and Blanche (Poitra) Lucier. They later moved to Minot, ND. John went to St. Paul School in Marty, SD, where he graduated. After school he went to do many trade jobs in and around Minot until entering the Military (Marines) in 1958.

John met the love of his life, Donna Dietrich, in Minot and were married on June 20, 1959. They made their home in Minot until moving to St. Paul, MN, in 1968. John worked as a carpet layer in St. Paul until 1975, when he moved the family for a brief time to Minot until settling in Bismarck, ND. John then worked at United Tribes as a dorm counselor while attending Mary College for 4 years, where he earned a Degree in Social Work. John then started working at the State industrial school, now known as Youth Correctional Center, in Mandan, ND, retiring from there in 1990. After his retirement, John and Donna became foster parents for the Casey Family in Bismarck. Soon after, John and Donna moved to Fargo, ND, and John started working for Franks Auto Glass and also for PATH, fostering children and teens. John and Donna fostered 36 children through their home until 2001. John retired again from Franks Auto Glass in 1999.

His wife, Donna, passed away in June of 2001. John moved to Acworth, Georgia where he united with Buna, and was married shortly after. John worked at BJ’s in theft prevention. He moved back to Bismarck in 2005, until later settling back in Fargo and resided with Frank and Kim, and also Stephanie, until his passing.

John is survived by his children – Stephanie Lucier (Todd); Stephan Lucier; John Lucier (Cari); and Frank Lucier (Kim); his 14 grandchildren; one grandson, Cory, who was also his best friend; and many great, and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Pat (Frank) Bice; his two brothers – Ronald (Pat) Lucier and Dennis Lucier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanch Lucier; his in-laws, Raymond and Doris Dietrich; his wife, Donna Lucier; his daughter, Roberta; his sisters – Juanita, Rita, Donna, Mae, and Francis; his brother, Virgil; and his grandchildren – Trevor and Ciara Lucier (John and Cari)

Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1 pm with visitation beginning at 12 pm. Immediately following the service there will be a light lunch and graveside service at 3 pm at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, with full military honors.
