John Thomas Roberts of Fargo, North Dakota, passed away at Sanford Medical Center’s West Campus on July 25, 2026.
John was born in Fargo, ND on June 1, 1958, to loving parents, Warren G. Roberts and Beatrice A. Roberts (Gunhus).
John completed his formal education when he graduated from Fargo South High School. Following his education, he worked at Hornbacher’s grocery store for 30 years.
He is survived by his brothers; Donald (Mary) Roberts of Rochester, Minnesota, and Richard Roberts of Fargo, ND. He’s also survived by nephew; Craig (Shauna) Roberts of Highland, Utah and their children; Lauren (Tanner) Toolson of Fort Worth, TX, Ryan, and Ethan, nephew; Eric (Kristinia) Roberts of Edina, Minnesota and their children; Elsa and Linnea, nephew; Andrew (Madison) Roberts of Rochester, Minnesota and their children; Evelyn, Isaac, and Charlotte. John is also survived by many cousins.
A special note of thanks and appreciation to the cousins that visited John over the years, the staff and friends at Bethany Retirement Living and the staff of the Sanford ICU who cared for John.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Fargo on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will begin half an hour prior at 10:00 AM.

To the Richard, Don and the entire family of John Roberts: Please accept Beth’s and my most sincere condolences on the death of your beloved John. My fond memories of both John and Richard go back to my days working in the Edgewood Pro Shop. Warren and Bea, with John and Richard, would pop by the golf course from time to time to check things out and we’d have a pleasant visit. I had crossed paths earlier with both John and Richard in junior high days. My wife, Beth, enjoyed getting to know Bea, Richard and John early in our marriage and it was always a delight to see them. The love shared in the Roberts family was remarkable. Beth and I would enjoy seeing John working at Hornbacher’s over the years. Regards, Beth and Erik
Don, I am so very sorry to hear about your brother’s passing. John spent a lot of time at our house when my kids were growing up.. He loved to visit with me and my husband. He spent a lot of time playing basketball in our driveway with the kids. I was told when we moved into our house ( Ruth Dawson’s house.) in 1990 that kids were never allowed on the grass here. It didn’t take long for wiffleball to take over and create the perfect ball diamond on our corner. Base lines and pitcher’s mound (more like a crater) worn into the grass. John didn’t play much ball but he was a very good coach, umpire and cheerleader! We missed him after he moved from the neighborhood. I would see him working at Horbacher’s and we would visit a little. He didn’t want to talk very long though because he had to get back to work. A very conscientious employee. He was proud of his work and how long he had been there. Take comfort in the memories and know he is now flying high in heaven. He will be missed! 💔
Dear Don, Mary, Dick and family,
My sympathy as you grieve the loss of my cousin John. My memories of John go back to when we were children and we visited at our farm, in Park River and in Fargo. We always had fun times and I remember John as being kind and loving. In recent years he was cordial and happy to see us. Blessed be the memory of John Roberts.
