Joseph C Henning
January 1, 1970 ~ July 21, 2006
Joseph C. Henning, 87 of Fargo, was called home to our Lord on July 21. He will be welcomed by his daughter Mary Catherine and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mable Hill Henning; daughter Patricia (Patrick) Strother of Mound, Minnesota; grandchildren Sara Ann and Ryan Joseph; sister Frances McInnis of Gresham, Oregon; and nephew Rick (Eloyes) Hill of Cormorant, Minnesota, and many friends and neighbors.
Born July 5, 1919 to first-generation Americans Joseph G. and Gertrude Erhart Henning in Nobles County, Minnesota, he helped his family farm near Valley City, North Dakota, and Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada before moving to Fargo in 1936. Joe was a WWII veteran, stationed with the Army in the European Theatre. Upon his return, he began a 39 year career with Meinecke-Johnson Company first as an ironworker and then serving as Job Superintendent. Among the construction projects he supervised were West Acres, Nativity Church, Fargo Library and the original St. Luke?s and Dakota Hospitals (now MeritCare facilities). During his hard-earned retirement he relished ?doing nothing? which included 17 continuous years as a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, gardening, fishing and travel. Joe lived a full, honorable and courageous life taking delight in simple pleasures. His generosity, hearty laugh and extraordinary ability to strike up a conversation anywhere, anytime touched the lives of people everywhere he went.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Elim Nursing Home, Fargo. Visitation Monday 5-7 pm Boulger Funeral home with Prayer Service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 11 am, Church of the Nativity. Internment at Holy Cross North Cemetery.
