Joseph J Fleck age 91, of Fargo ND died Wednesday July 17th, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

Joe was born on January 1st, 1933, at the family farm in Brisbane ND. Joe was born to Alex and Rose Fleck. He attended grade school in Selfridge, ND and High School in Leith ND, where he played basketball for the Leith Pirates.

On November 21st, 1952, Joe married Lois Jean Erickson at the Catholic Church in Carson, ND. Joe and Lois moved from Raleigh, ND to Flasher, ND where Joe went to work for Flasher Farmers Union Coop Store. During his life, Joe also worked for Midland Coop Inc, Cenex Inc., Land O Lakes Inc., and Wimbledon Farmers Union Oil Company until he retired in 1999.

Joe was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a forty plus fraternal Eagles member.

In his free time, Joe was a Boy Scout leader, a youth baseball and basketball coach, and enjoyed refereeing many Class B basketball games. Joe loved basketball, and you could always find him in front of his television watching all of ND Class A & B boys and girls basketball tournaments every season. It was hard to pull him away from the television during that part of the year. Joe loved all sports, and so enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, dance, theater, and so much more. He continued that love with his great-grandchildren and loved watching his great-grandson Owen (his Frank Sinatra, as he called him) in many musical performances.

After Joe moved to Fargo, he worked at the Fargo Dome and Fargo Civic Center. Joe loved Bison Football and especially his time at the Fargo Dome during the season where Joe watched the locker room for the referees and opposing teams.

Joe also loved to fish and go to the lake with Terry and Kristy and Jeff and Pam.

Joe was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. He loved being involved in any way he could including taking care of the sacristy and assisting Father in preparing for Sunday Services, which truly brought him such joy. He loved his church family and will continue to be with you in faith and love.

Joe is survived by 3 children: Terry (Kristy) Fleck of Bismarck, ND, Jeff (Pam) Fleck of Fergus Falls, MN, and Tammy (Emmett) Page of West Fargo, ND; Daughter In-Law Judy Fleck of Wahpeton, ND; Grandchildren Jessica (Matt) Siders, West Fargo, ND, Jordan (Nikki) Fleck of Fergus Falls, MN, Samantha Page of Philadelphia, PA, Matt Page of Jamestown, ND, and Lesha Page of Lawton, OK; Great-Grandchildren Owen Siders, and Jack and Carter Fleck; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Heartfelt condolences to the family. Precious memories forever in your hearts. Enjoyed many conversations with Joe at the Fargodome. God’s Peace ✝️🇺🇸

  2. I will always remember Joe as a friend and his quick wit. He was a great cooperative leader! Deepest sympathies to Joes family.

  3. Sending our sympathy and prayers to all. Uncle Joe was a kind and caring soul and always had a story to tell. God bless.

  4. My deepest sympathies to your family. I was the coop manager in Valley City while Joe managed the coop in Wimbledon. He was one of the most passionate advocates of cooperatives I’d had ever know. He always brought a smile to everyone he met and would light up a room with laughter with one of many stories. He will be deeply missed.

  5. Terry, Kristy and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Thinking about you and praying you find peace in your beautiful memories. May God bless you during this difficult time.
Love from Dorothy and Dan StCyr & Family

  6. Sympathies to the family of Joe I had the pleasure of working with Joe at the Fargo Dome. Joe was a wonderful person and always had a smile on his face regardless of what he was doing. Rest in peach Joe!

  7. God Bless the family/What a man Joe was .He was a good friend also.
    We will miss you friend.

  8. I would run into Joe as I set up the musicians for Sunday Mass. Always something to look forward to. I enjoyed his energy and wit. He was the life force at St. Benedicts. I feel a lot sadder today. First our church goes down, then Joe passes. I do rejoice with him in the promise of the risen Christ. My sympathies.

  9. My thoughts and prayers to the family of Joe. I had the honor of working with Joe for many years at the Fargodome. He was always so happy and would go above and beyond for me. I never had to worry about him getting his job done and it was always done correctly and ahead of time. He always had a joke or a one liner that made my day. He was proud of and loved his children and grandchildren, as he spoke proudly of them often. I will always remember Joe standing in the NW corner of the dome. That was his “spot”. RIPJoseph.

  10. My sincere sympathy and prayers of comfort go out to the family of Joe. I got to know him when my office was located in the 25th St Family Fare building for 11 years. Joe was always ready with a smile, a compliment and a joke, whenever I had the pleasure of seeing him. His love for God was always obvious in everything he said and did. Rest in Paradise Little Joe Fleck.

  11. Evelyn and Ervin Miller:
We extend our sincere sympathy to the family on the lose of their loved one, Joseph. We came to know Joe when he was manager of the Co-op store in Flasher, ND. He now rests in the joy and peace with our heavenly Father. Glory and praise to our God!

Our family met Joe, Lois and family in Two Harbors, Mn. Joe and Dean worked together at the Two Harbors Coop. We have remained good friends thru the years. The friendship continued when they moved to Graceville. Mn. Joe heard about a small grocery store in Wheaton, Mn. for sale, again our friendship grew. We bought the store and lived 17 miles away from them.
We have been blessed to have had their friendship for many years. Joe and Lois will be greatly missed by their families and friends. Keep your memories close to your heart!!

  12. Joe was so sweet to our girls as they were nervous to begin altar serving. He was a lovely presence at St. Ben’s and a special person. He will be missed and we will keep his memory close.

  13. Joe and I have been great friends for many years. We enjoyed being the great sports advocates and doing our part at keeping healthy by walking daily. Always meeting friends and drinking coffee. He was a big part of my life and I am really missing him. Rest in Peace Joe. You deserve it !!!!

  14. Terry and Kristy, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences, and to the rest of the Fleck Family, with Joseph’s passing. It is hard to lose a loved one, but the sun does still shine each and every day for us to remember the good times. God Bless and Godspeed. Amen.
