To those who knew Joseph Joe Ricker, they would describe him as a man who loved his family and always willing to help his neighbor.He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Joe was born April 23, 1935 the son of Ignatious I. E. Ricker and Ethel Claseman. He grew up in Hope North Dakota on the family farm. He loved to work with his hands and was very skilled with them. In 1957 he went to work in the Copper Mines of Butte Montana until he returned to North Dakota. It was then he met Jean Smith of Doran, Minnesota. They fell in love and were married on June 1, 1961. During that time Joe worked for Larson Welding in the winters and on the family farm during the summers. Over the years, Joe would eventually stop farming but continued to keep a family garden. He worked as a machinist for Federal Machine and Tri-Steele. He retired from Mid-America Steele in 1998. On March 23, Joe learned he had an incurable and terminal cancer. His desire was to spend his final days at home surrounded by the people whom he loved. Six days later, Joe gently left this world and went to his heavenly home. Joe is survived by his wife Jean; his children Renee (Tim) Ekstrom, Rick (Carol), Tom (Tawyna), Allen (Diane), and Theresa (Frank) LaLonde; his sisters Florence (Raymond) Wasness and Eleanor (Wayne) Richards; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was proceeded by his parents; brothers John and Fred; sister Edith; infant daughter Mary Jo. A vigil service will be held on Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 with visitation before starting at 5:00 pm. His funeral will be celebrated on Thursday, April 2 at 2:00 pm. Both are at Nativity Church in Fargo. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery North. Joe cared about Fr. Davis work with the impoverished people of Chimbote, Peru. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Fr. Jack Davis? mission in Joe's name.
