Funeral Service:

Judy A. Metcalf, 91, of West Fargo, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Judy was born on September 9, 1935, in Wahpeton, North Dakota, to Lester and Marjorie (Boyer) Bolstad. She grew up in the Colfax area and attended Nansen #1, a country school located just one mile from her family home. Judy later attended Colfax High School, graduating in 1953.

Following graduation, Judy began working in Wahpeton and Breckenridge, where she worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper.

On October 3, 1955, Judy married Roger D. Iwerks at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Colfax. During Roger’s four years of service in the United States Air Force, Judy continued working in banking. Together, they welcomed two children, Randy and Julie, and made their home in the Fargo area, where they owned and operated the University Mobil Station in North Fargo for seven years. Roger passed away on February 5, 1972, at the age of 37.

Judy married Ronald Metcalf on April 20, 1974, and together they made their home in Fargo.

Judy found great joy in the simple things in life. She loved spending time in her garden, tending to her many flowers and vegetables, being outdoors, and baking for the people she loved. She was especially known for her beautiful roses, which she loved to share with others. She would carefully tend to them and then happily give them away, turning something she had lovingly grown into a gift for someone else. She will always be remembered for the warm and welcoming home she created, a place where family and friends were always invited in and made to feel loved. She treated everyone she encountered with kindness, compassion, and grace, living her life guided by the fruits of the Spirit and the love of Christ.

Judy’s greatest joy and purpose was her family. In a note she left taped inside her Bible, she wrote, “I found my purpose in life as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and homemaker. My family was my focus. God bless.”

Those words beautifully reflect the life Judy lived: one centered on faith, family, love, and a home where all were welcomed.

Judy is survived by her husband, Ron Metcalf, Fargo; son, Randy Iwerks, Wendy Iwerks; daughter, Julie (Randy Johnson) Iwerks; grandchildren, Ryan and Sydney Iwerks; Anthony, Grace, and Daniel Iwerks Johnson; sister, Rebecca (Roger) Moe; sister-in-law, Ilene Bolstad; stepchildren, Ron S. Hurner and Terri Brunsvold; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Marjorie Bolstad; her first husband, Roger Iwerks; her brother; Vern Bolstad; and granddaughter MacKenzie Iwerks.

    Dear Julie and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your mother and grandmother’s passing. I remember her being so sweet and generous when I came to the house to spend time with you, Julie, and for your birthday parties. Her obituary picture is beautiful and with the lovely smile and expression I remember. I will be thinking of you as you grieve and remember her impactful and loving life.

  6. Susan and David Nagel says:

Ron and Judy were our favorite neighbors. So many conversations over the back yard fence, sharing our garden stories and talking about our families. Ron and Judy – just the best of the best. I missed Judy so much when she moved from the neighborhood. Deep condolences on losing your mother.

  9. Joni Gulbrandson Nudell says:

I am so sorry to hear of Judy’s passing. We were the first neighbors to live behind them in north Fargo, before fences were popular.
Judy was so sweet to visit with and was always interested in my activities and interests!
I was blessed to be able to babysit when her beautiful children came along. I just had to walk to our back door to get home, but she always made sure I flashed the light off and on so she knew I had gotten home safely : )
That is how I will always remember her… looking out for everyone and spreading kindness!
My thoughts and prayers are with Ron, Randy, Julie and their families. God Bless
