Judith Ann Clauson, 67 of Gardner, ND died on February 11, 2023, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND from COPD complications. She passed peacefully with her son Brandon, sister Kari Malen and sister-in-law Nancy Nelson by her side.
Judi Clauson was born on January 10, 1956, in Minot, ND to James and Barb Clauson. She was the second oldest of six children, Lisa, Janet, Kari, Mary and youngest brother Tom.
She attended Bethany Lutheran in Minot and was confirmed in 1971. Her faith was always important in her life and her trust in God sustained her through all of life’s many struggles.
Judi had the ability to easily connect with people and make lifelong friendships.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting and had many achievement awards. Her childhood was exciting, and summer brought trips to Canada and her families beloved cabin at Kenosee Lake. She loved going there and even as an adult she would take many friends to share the cabin experience.
Judi graduated from Minot High School in 1974. She exceled in her home economics courses, which comes as no surprise to anyone who tasted her cooking. She also was active in the pom-pom squad.
After High School she went out to Idaho to see the country, but she eventually returned to North Dakota and settled in Watford City.
Judi worked as a deli and store manager and did butchering at the local grocery store and also clerical work for an oilfield company.
In 1986 she met her lifelong companion Bryan Skjoldal and they started their family in 1987, with the birth of Brandon James, who she loved as only a mother can.
The next step in her life came with a move to Fargo in 1996. It was quite an adjustment, but she soon returned to preparing food and catering at Hornbacher’s grocery. She catered many events, and her work was very much appreciated. She spent 14 years there and then took employment at local nursing homes for the duration of her working years.
Her illness took a quick turn in the last few years, but she was always so full of joy.
We have to mention her faithful little dog Wowa, who passed two weeks before Judi and was nearly always by her side for 14 years.
Judi is survived by her companion Bryan Skjoldal, son Brandon and her granddaughter Nora. Also, four sisters, Lisa Waldoch (Dan) Bismarck, ND, Janet Strate (Bill) Des Moines, IA, Mary Clauson (Rob Vinson) Reno, NV, Kari Malen (Mike Julson) Minot, ND and Thomas Clauson (Melissa) Seattle.

My deepest condolences to Judy’s family!
I am so sorry to hear of Judi’s passing. Prayers and peace for her family. Brenda Marsh Tetzloff
For All,
Judi you were braver than you believed, stronger than you realized, and smarter than you thought. You loved all of us more than you knew.
If I could give you a gift it would be the ability to see yourself through my eyes. With that ability you would see how important and special you were to me. You were my inspiration to push on in hope.
Judy always welcomed you with a big smile and a hug. Just being near her made you smile and feel better no matyer what life had thrown you. Judy was human embodiment of sunshine and ladybugs. Love you
May God bless Judi’s family as you remember her. She was a spark of light and it was evident what a caring heart she had. Brandon was so loved by his mom and you could see how happy she was to watch him grow.
My sympathy to Judi’s family and friends in their loss. Judi’s sisters may remember me as a friend of their parents through the Hedahl’s who were our Velva neighbors back then. Just recently, Barb and Jim’s name came up when my daughter, Jackie, and I drove north to the airport. I remember well visiting Barb and she and her mother making doughnuts (or was it meatballs?) It is sad that it takes a note in the newspaper for me to connect with family of long ago friends. I hope memories of earlier happy times can east your sorrow.
I loved bumping into Judi around Fargo occasionally. We were always delighted to see each other. I especially remember the first time when she walked up to me, planted herself right in front of me, and asked with an impish grin, “Are you from Minot?” When I finally recognized her we shared a big hug and laugh. God bless her and everyone that loves her.
Rest in peace Judi. I will always cherish our formative years spending summers on Poplar Street at Kenosee.
Rest in Peace, Judith.
All the way back to Sunnyside, Judy! Going to always remember you.
Brad
Sorry to hear about Judi’s passing. Sympathies to all her friends and family.
I worked with her briefly at the General Store in Watford City. She was a kind, caring and also a fun to have around workmate.💐
