Judith (Judi) McDonald was born February 16th, 1948, in Barney, North Dakota, one of 8 children of Laverne and Evelyn Kubasta. Judi died in Sun Lakes, Arizona on March 9th, 2021, after a brief illness. Judi began working at Perkins Pancake House on Broadway in 1962 at age 14, and in 1968 became a co-owner of the restaurant with Dick and Sandie Deilke before becoming the sole proprietor of the popular restaurant that would see people lined up along downtown Fargo on weekends to enjoy “Everybody’s favorite Pancakes”. Selling the restaurant in 1977, Judi and husband, Jerry, formed McDonald’s Property, owning and managing apartment buildings in Fargo-Moorhead area until 2019.
Judi is survived by Jerry, whom she married in 1975, and five children, Stacy Schwab (Dave) of Fargo; Shannon Williams (Dave) of Lake Havasu, AZ; John McDonald (Cynthia) Denver, CO; Paul McDonald (Tina) of Fargo; and Tammie Gates (Ted) of Northern Virginia. She was preceded in death by daughter Kelly Breidenbach (Nick) of Napoleon ND; grandson Yikealo Breidenbach; sister Jan Norton (Bob); brothers Larry (Bobbie) Kubasta and Dave (Lorraine) Kubasta and brother in law Dene Billbe. Judi is also survived by brothers Arnold (Karen) Kubasta, Norman (Mitz) Kubasta, sisters Von Stoen (Brian) and Irene (Dene) Billbe. Judi was a grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild on the way.
Judi’s passions were her faith, family and friends. Throughout the years, she was an active supporter of her church and of the nonprofit organization, God’s Child and the American Cancer Society. Judi loved traveling, spending time at the family lake home, and wintering in Sun Lakes, Arizona.

I am so sorry to learn of Judy’s death. I did not know her well but always enjoyed talking with her whenever we encountered each other. I wish each of her family members the Peace that Christ offers!
