Julean Lee

Julean Lee, age 82, of Fargo, died on Thursday, August 28, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation will be held from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Monday in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held in the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo. Julean Ardean Lee was the third of eight children born to Severt and Agnes Lee. His life began on June 9, 1921, on the family farm at Wellsburg, ND. He spent much of his childhood at his grandparents? family farms in the Harvey area. At age 16 Julean joined the Civilian Conservation Corp where irrigation projects were being done at Sidney, Montana. He was employed by the Great Northern Railway as a cook after discharge from the conservation corp. In 1941, Julean entered the 164th Infantry of the North Dakota National Guard at Harvey. After training at New Caledonia, in 1942, the 164th reinforced the Marines at Guadalcanal. After five months there, time was spent at Fiji Islands before 11 months at Bougansville. More months were spent in the Phillipines, Sabau, and Negroes Islands. After 42 months in the South Pacific, Julean was sent home to North Dakota on his birthday in 1945. Julean worked as a fireman for the Soo Line Railroad for 3 ? years after his discharge from the Army. On April 6, 1947, Julean married Bernice Michelson in Harvey. In 1948 they lived in Kansas City, MO, for Julean to attend the National Trade School to learn the plumbing trade. After work in plumbing in Harvey, they moved to Moorhead in 1951 where Julean remained in plumbing and heating. In 1955 Julean joined the plumbing and heating department at NDSU until retirement in 1985. He enjoyed traveling, his loved ones, and life in general until the very end. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bernice, and a brother, Arnold. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Bernice; one son, Brian (Edie), Fargo; one daughter, Brenda (Tim Schwanke), Grey Eagle, MN; one grandson, Jared, Fargo; three brothers, Stanley (Susan), Seattle, WA, Delbert (Martha), Fargo, and Richard (Nancy), Gully, MN; and two sisters, Ella Robinson, Chillicothe, MO, and Shirley (Ray) Disher, Issaquah, WA Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
