The Funeral Mass for Julia Swanson will be held 10 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro, North Dakota. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at St. Rose of Lima Church. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Julia died on Friday, May 16, 2003, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital at the age of 86. Julia was born on November 23, 1916, near Towner, North Dakota, the daughter of Anton and Frances (Deschner) Dexheimer. She grew up in this area and attended school in Towner. After her schooling she moved to Fargo where she met her future husband. On May 10, 1940, Julia was united in marriage to George Swanson in Fargo. They moved in Cummings, North Dakota, in 1945 where they began farming. They retired from farming in 1985. Julia worked as head of the Senior Citizens Center in Hillsboro until 1990. She also worked as the postal clerk at the Cummings Community Post Office until the time of her death. Julia will be fondly remembered by all of her loving family and friends as a warm and caring person who was always able to see the good in everyone. She had a special touch with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved to make Sunday dinner for them. Julia was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Church. Surviving are her sons, George (Darlene) Swanson of Cummings, ND; Robert (Suzie) Swanson of Bullhead City, AZ; and John (Linda) Swanson of Dodgeville, WI; her grandchildren, Bonita (Clem) Moger; Craig (Carla) Swanson; Jason Swanson; Debbie (Scott) Sundeen; Leah (Darrin) Knudsvig; Chad (Marlo) Swanson; Todd (Rhonda) Swanson; and Tamara (Pat) Brown; her step granddaughters, Bitsy and Angie; and her 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Cecelia Steenson of Cummings, ND; and Meg Jones of Fargo, ND; her brother, Tony (Ada) Dexheimer of Ulen, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George in 1991; her sisters, Christine, Mary, Agatha, and Katie; and her brothers, Leo, John, Balzer and Lawrence.
