Resided in: Bemidji, Minnesota

Julie Ann Scherrer, a lifelong Bemidji resident, passed away Monday, March 18, at the Vibra Health Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Julie was born in Bemidji, MN, on June 23, 1959, the daughter of James and Caroline Scherrer. She attended Bemidji Schools and graduated with the Class of 1979. From birth, Julie was afflicted with many disabilities and health challenges, but she maintained a cheerful and friendly disposition and was loved by many.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Jr. Left to mourn her are her brothers Bob (Linda) Bergan of Great Falls, MT, Ron (Sharon) Bergan of Side Lake, MN, Ralph (Stephanie) Scherrer of East Grand Forks, and her sister, Anita Hoffman of Thief River Falls. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She dearly loved her group home family: Donna, Ethan, Renee, Marla, and Keisha. We are so appreciative of all the people who have supported Julie throughout her life, at her group home, at Nielsen Place, and in the community.

Julie had a special love for kittens and puppies. Among Julie’s favorite activities were fishing with Ethan, participating in the Special Olympics, the summer event Fishing Has No Boundaries, and playing bingo at Nielson Place and the Eagles Club where many people remembered her parents. Julie enjoyed volunteering at Oak Hills Bible Camp and Nielsen Place. She also enjoyed outings with Donna and Ethan, to whom we are so grateful.

Cards may be sent to Bob Bergan, 2209 Grape CT, Great Falls, MT 59404. They will be shared at her memorial service with family and friends. We would love to have you share special memories and stories. If you would like to send a Memorial, please make it out to the Bemidji chapter of Fishing Has No Boundaries.

A memorial get together will be held in Bemidji on Sunday, June 2nd at noon at Diamond Point Park and Julie will be laid to rest in Chippewa Lutheran Cemetery at Brandon, MN, next to her parents.

  1. So sorry about Julie. I found a scripture I like to share at JW.org, Acts 24:15, “there is going to be a resurrection,” I wish your family the very best for the future.

  2. I will miss Julie’s phone calls and her sassyness. She was a joy to visit. She was on my itinerary almost every time I came to Bemidji.
