Kaela Carlson

kaela carlson
For my sweet girl… Kaela Sue Schroeder Carlson passed away peacefully on February 14th at age 46 with her family by her side after her long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and while under the loving care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Kaela was born on November 1, 1970 to Susan Bommersbach and Galen Schroeder in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.  She attended elementary schools in Fargo, was MN Demolay State Sweetheart 1988-89 and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1989. She attended Northwest Technical College and Moorhead State University.  She worked as a dental assistant and in the cosmetic retail industry for years.  She was glamourous inside and out. On May 29, 1999, she married Michael Carlson, and they lived in various cities in which Kaela made instant friends faster than the moving trucks were emptied. Kaela was a lifetime dancer and figure skater, and although Multiple Sclerosis took those abilities away, she was proud of her accomplishments and had fond recollections of them.  She had many passions but the love of animals tops the list, and she will be deeply missed by Buddy and Rita. Kaela is survived by her husband Michael Carlson.  She is also survived by her parents Susan (Gary) Bommersbach and Galen (Mary) Schroeder, Mike’s parents Barbara and Clayton Carlson, her sister Stacey (Sean) Schroeder Moultrie, Mike’s brother Jeffery Carlson, nephews Gabriel Carlson and Jett Moultrie and niece Ginger Moultrie, step-brother Paul (Zindy) Thibedeau, life-long friend Tina (Dan) Anthony and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.  She was preceded in death by grandparents Betty and Duart Schroeder, Eleanor (Gigi) and Charles Golder, and step-brother Matthew Thibedeau. In lieu of flowers, Kaela’s family suggests memorials to National MS Society or to Hospice of the Red River Valley. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 20th at 10:30 at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo with a viewing at 9:30.

  7. Kaela, you are beautiful inside and out. We had a lot of good times and trying times together and you never stopped smiling or laughing. Signed, your best friend forever

  8. I am so sad to hear about Kaela’s passing. I remember her as a beautiful girl with lots of smiles and fun in her heart. My deepest sympathy to all of her family and friends.

  9. Jerry and I are aching for all of you. The loss of a child at any time is the most profound pain imaginable, we know. And the loss of a wife, a sister or a friend at such a young age is another profound pain. May God surround you all with His love and peace as you mourn Kaela and celebrate her life.

  10. Galen, I am so sorry to learn of your daughter’s death! We do not expect to outlive our children. I trust you have many fond memories to comfort you! May God be with you and your family. I wish you peace.
    Sincerely, Maureta

  13. To all of Kaela family we send our sympathy. Our hearts are heavy to hear of her passing. May she rest in peace and may many good memories sustain you now and forever. You are in our thoughts and prayers and special hugs to you Susan.

  14. We lost a sweetheart on Valentine’s Day and we will always remember Kaela on February 14 for the rest of our lives.

She was a lovely young woman that I had the privilege of having as a student. I can still see that pretty face in the classroom at Moorhead Technical College, now known as MN State Community and Technical College or “M State”!

We also share(d) the same autoimmune disease — Multiple Sclerosis. I think Kaela and I had the same motto, “I have Multiple Sclerosis, but MS doesn’t have me”.

Mike and I extend our sorrow to Kaela’s family and friends. God Bless the life of Kaela Schroeder Carlson.

  15. Kaela – beautiful inside and out. Our thoughts and prayers to her family as they go through this difficult time.

  16. I am so deeply sorry to see you have lost your dear one. I send sincerest sympathy. There will come a quiet time and I hope you will remember this; our Heavenly Father promises that He will bring our loved ones back to life, healthy and sound. ( John 5 : 28, 29 ). Soon He will restore His original magnificent purpose for us and the Earth where He will do away with death and sorrow permanently. ( Rev 21 : 3,4 ). I truly hope you can cope and have peace as you deal with your loss.

  17. Offering sincere condolences to the family and friends. May the future promises our Heavenly Father guarantee’s will soon come about, comfort you, strengthen your faith and give you hope. (Acts 24:15; Ps. 37:29)

  18. I am so sorry for the loss of your dear loved one. Life is a precious gift, yet so short. God has promised to one day soon eliminate death forever, along with all sickness, pain and sorrow. (Rev.21:4) He has also promised to reunite us with our loved ones on a restored paradise earth. The Bible says he yearns to do this. (John 5:28,29; Psalm 37:11,29; Job 14:14,15) I hope these scriptures will be of comfort to each of you and bring you peace.
