Karalyn A. Baspaly

Karalyn A. Baspaly, 77, of West Fargo, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Karalyn was born on April 7, 1949, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Raymond and Helen (Auer) Ahmann. She grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1967. Following high school, Karalyn attended community college before setting out on an adventure that would eventually take her north to Canada.

Karalyn moved to Sioux Narrows, Ontario, where she worked for her aunt and uncle. She later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she met the man who would become her husband, Donald. Karalyn and Donald were married at an all-night wedding chapel, beginning a life together that stood the test of time. She was always proud to say, “We made it last.”

Throughout her working years, Karalyn held positions in customer service and data entry, including time with Blue Cross Blue Shield. In 1989, she returned to North Dakota and settled in the Bismarck area. Karalyn’s family spent some time living in Arizona, but eventually made their way back home to North Dakota because, as she put it, “we missed the winters.”

Karalyn enjoyed the simple things in life and found happiness in the people around her. Riding motorcycles was one of her greatest hobbies, and she also loved sewing and knitting. She especially treasured time spent with her family.

She was also an avid participant in the FM Singles dances, where she enjoyed the music, dancing, friendships, and being part of the group.

Those who knew Karalyn will remember a woman who was selfless, simple, and always thinking of others before herself. She rarely spent money on herself and was happiest when she could do something for someone else. A true people pleaser at heart, Karalyn wanted those around her to be happy and cared for.

She is survived by her son, Theo; grandson, Tyler; siblings, Jim (Renee) Ahmann, Kathryn Nicklay, Monica Waller, Marge Haakstad, Loraine Ahmann, Eileen (Ken) Austin, Randy (Janice) Ahmann, and Anita Mortensen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sibling Mandy Wick; and brothers-in-law Steve Wick, Lyman Haakstad, Jerry Nicklay, and Mike Mortensen.
