Kathleen Mae Melander, 94, of Hunter, ND died at Benedictine Living Community, Crookston, MN on November 8, 2025.

Kathleen was born May 31, 1931 in Greenfield Township, Traill County, ND to Paul and Mildred (Seebart) Brayton. Kathleen graduated from Hunter High School and attended Jamestown College for two years obtaining a teaching certificate. She taught at Drayton and Arthur Public Schools before her marriage.

Kathleen married Morris Martin Melander in 1956 and farmed near Hunter until 1997. She continued her love of education by teaching kindergarten, Mary’s second grade class, and other substitute teaching positions in Hunter.

She was the Hunter Honeys 4-H leader for over twenty years, active in St. Agnes Catholic Church, member of the Town and Country Homemakers Club and the Hunter Friendship Club. She enjoyed spending time with family at the cabin on South Twin Lake that her father built and wintering in Mesa, AZ with Morris.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Kent Lorenz, and many dear cousins.

Kathleen is survived by her children, Pamela (Paul) Hanson, East Grand Forks, MN, Mary Lorenz, Grand Forks, ND, Lesly (Dion) Havelange, and Matthew (Lisa) Melander, Hunter, ND; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Joni), Scott (Sable), Mark, and Luke Hanson, Andrea (Jeff), and Craig (Shalee) Lorenz, Michael (Amanda) Havelange, and Amy (Mike) Grayson; nine great grandchildren, Lexi, Michael, Corbin, Collins, Malik, Seek, Hank, Story, and Cash. She considered Maya, Sawyer, Fletcher, and Brooklyn a part of her family circle.

She is survived by her sister, Pauline (Roald) Fuglestad, Park Rapids, MN and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family wishes any memorials be given to St. Agnes Catholic Church or a charity of their choice.
