Kenneth E. Erickson, 91, joined his bride, Betty, in heaven on May 12, 2016. He died peacefully with family at his side. Kenneth Ellsted Erickson was born June 7, 1924, in Kindred, ND, to Theodore and Alma Erickson. Ken was raised on the farm South of Kindred in Richland County. He attended local schools and graduated from Kindred high school with the iconic class of 1942. During the years of the war, the decision was made to have Ken be responsible for maintaining the family farm. Ken was known as an excellent, hardworking, conservative farmer. He served on the Township Board for several years. Ken briefly attended NDSU. Ken met the vivacious teacher at the Riverside Country School down the road, and he and Betty (Quamme) were married in Dwight, ND, in 1947. They raised three children, Steven, Shelli, and Paula. Ken and Betty farmed until 1989, and lived on the farm until they moved to Fargo in 2000. Ken and Betty enjoyed winters in Arizona and later in Florida. They enjoyed traveling, and made trips to Europe and Asia. Ken and Betty had the gift of caring and service and were always active in their Gol Lutheran church, and at Bethel church in Fargo. They visited hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins. They enjoyed extraordinary health, and were fixtures of the early morning walking group at the mall. They made several trips with the Encore group at Bethel, always the eldest members. They doted on their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by Betty, his parents, his brothers, Archie, Wally, Don, and Martell, his sister, Ione, and his great granddaughter Kenadey Faye Jensen. Ken is survived by his sister, Adeline Erickson of West Fargo; his son Steven E. Erickson, Mount Dora, FL; his daughters, Shelli (Roger) Conner, Mount Dora, FL; and Paula (Monty) Mertz, Fargo; eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. 2. I did not know Ken personally but I believe he handled some of my family’s affairs. Was he the real estate agent or was that Wally? I know as a kid I attended the wedding of I believe his name was Archie who married Adeline Luidahl in the Norman Lutheran church. I remember the salad served at the dinner! A very nice family from Kindred.
