Krista J. Detloff

Krista J. (Hartleben) Detloff of Moorhead set off on her greatest adventure June 26, 2022 at the age of 50, surrounded with love after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Krista was born on April 5, 1972 in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up and attended school in Hankinson, ND where she was an active participant in numerous school activities including the drama club, cheer team, track team, and basketball team. Krista holds two high school track and field records. She then went on to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead where she met her husband Mike. In 2015, Krista obtained a Masters Degree in Education.

Krista was a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Barnesville MN School District for 7 years before accepting a position as an English teacher for 10 years. She loved and supported her students, especially those who felt a little out of place. During this time, she was the coach of the Barnesville cheer team for at least 6 years and adored those girls and thought of them as her own.

Krista loved traveling, trying new experiences and food, reading, and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs. She always put Emma and Nicholas first and always thought of neat ways to surprise them. Krista was the ultimate organizer/researcher and loved planning the next adventure. During each adventure, she would take notes and then create a blog to share with anyone who was interested. Krista was also fascinated by history and really enjoyed a recent trip to Salem, MA, where the Salem Witch Trials were held. She also loved watching shows like Downtown Abbey, Game of Thrones, Vikings, Hell’s Kitchen, and Master Chef just to name a few.

Krista will be greatly missed. Many loved her as she always had the ability to get more out of a person than they knew they were capable of. She hated formality and just wanted people to be themselves.

Krista is survived by her husband Mike, daughter Emma, son Nicholas, her parents, Barb and Dale Hartleben, brother Todd (Stephanie) Hartleben. Also surviving are her beloved in-laws, 5 nieces, 10 nephews, and many cherished friends. Her maternal and paternal grandparents and many aunts and uncles precede her in death.

Krista’s celebration of life will be held at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, ND on Tuesday July 5th. Visitation will be at 1:00pm with a short celebration service at 2:00pm followed by a late lunch of her choosing. One of her final wishes was for this to be a happy time so instead of black, please dress in business casual or wear a shirt with a saying or funny graphic as she often wore them. Everyone is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, Krista would love everyone to try new experiences and create new memories with their family and friends.
