Prayer Service
On Sunday, October 29, 2023, Kristine Ann (Reitan) Maucort passed away peacefully at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND at the age of 57 years.
Kristi was born August 16th, 1966, in Grand Forks, ND. Shortly after her birth, she was adopted by Julius and Shirley Reitan, joining brother Scott to complete their family.
Kristi grew up in Valley City, ND. She attended Lincoln Elementary, Washington Elementary, and Valley City Junior and Senior High School, graduating in 1984. Kristi was a high achiever in all that she pursued including academics and athletics. She was involved in cheerleading, gymnastics, piano, choir and tennis. She loved her job working at the Dairy Queen throughout high school. Kristi graduated from Concordia College in 1988 with dual degrees in French and music. While a student at Concordia, Kristi met Bernard Maucort, whom she married in July of 1988. The following year, they moved to Connecticut where their daughter Sierra was born in February of 1992. They moved to Virginia where their second daughter, Alexis, was born in December of 1993. The Maucort family returned to Fargo in the fall of 1995. Kristi began teaching piano lessons out of their home and was beloved by her many students. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church where she was part of several musical groups; first accompanying the choir, then directing it as well as the bell choir. She also took part in many contemporary group performances.
In addition to musical interests, Kristi enjoyed reading, exercising at a local gym, and crossword puzzles but, most importantly, taking part in her daughters’ activities. Whether it was orchestra concerts, gymnastics, school activities, or soccer games, she enjoyed watching them perform to their highest levels and cheering them on. Kristi also loved sharing quiet moments at home with the girls watching their favorite TV shows like Dancing with the Stars, Survivor and Friends.
Anyone who knew Kristi remembers how she could light up a room with her beautiful smile and joyous laughter. She had an incredible ability to memorize lines from movies and impersonate the actors. She learned the French language and was able to speak fluently, as though it was her first language. A prolific writer, she wrote famous witty Christmas letters that were full of humor and life anecdotes. Kristi enjoyed reading weekly articles and had abundant respect for writer Tammy Swift of The Fargo Forum.
Sadly, in June of 2017 Kristi was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout the difficult journey that this disease brought, she continued to enjoy time with her daughters, extended family, and friends. While hearts are broken that this was life’s path for Kristi, we are thankful that her period of trial is over and she is in the loving care of her Savior eternally.
Kristi is survived by her daughters, Sierra (Shawn) Kahler and Alexis (Paxton) Lloyd, special friend and former husband Bernard (Kathy) Maucort, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She touched many lives with her talents, love, care, and humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Shirley Reitan and her older brother, Scott.

Thoughts and prayers to Kristi’s family.
My prayers to the ones Kristi leaves behind. I give you my prayers and strength as her family navigates thru these darkest of days.
To know Kristi and talking to her lit up your life. She always made me smile whenever I saw her. Prayers for her 2 daughters. She will be missed
A light went out in Fargo Sunday am with Kristi’s passing. She was an amazing woman that lit up a room or event. Her talent to make something fun(like choir or handball practice)was unbelieveable. Her smile made her whole face shine and how does one not feel wonderful encountering that? I’ll miss that spark and joy! Rest in peace and we’ll again meet in Heaven.
Kristi was a person that radiated joy. I will be praying for Sierra and Alexis that God binds up their broken hearts.
Lexi & family,
Gently wrap yourself in ALL the warm memories of your mother. Let the love that held you close continue to bring you strength and comfort. I know you will cherish all the time you spent with your mom and all the pictures and videos you have…something to always treasure. With sincere sympathy.
Kristi was one of my favorite people. My girls loved having her as a piano teacher, and she made every lesson fun. Her beautiful smile and her love for music and her students always shined through. My heart aches for you, Sierra and Alexis. Your mom adored you, and I hope you will always feel her love wrapped around you like a soft quilt.
My thought and prayers go out to you and your family.
