Born in: Fargo, North Dakota
Resided in: Moorhead, Minnesota

Kristyna Marie Walling Monson, 32, of Fargo, ND passed away on January 27, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Sanford Hospital.

Kristyna was born on June 12, 1992, to Virginia (Walling) Monson in Fargo, ND. She grew up in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Kristyna graduated from Moorhead High School in 2010, where she was a member of their debate team. In 2006, Virginia married Darryl Monson whom Kristyna referred to as “dad”. In 2008, Kristyna excitedly welcomed her sister, Emily Cecelia.

Kristyna had a passion for learning and absorbing new information. As a young child, she would often be found reading the dictionary and even the phone book. This enabled Kristyna to be a tough competitor when it came to a game of Scrabble. She had a love for any kind of logic puzzle.

Kristyna had a life-long struggle with her mental health. This led to an extended cycle of sobriety and drug addiction as an adult. Despite her addiction battle, she had a truly kind heart. Kristyna was always willing to help a friend or family member in need and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. She found solace in journaling and music. Kristyna loved being outdoors near the water and camping under the stars. She would say that it was her happy place and where her heart felt most at peace.

In 2020, Kristyna had her first son, Grayson Robert. That following year she met her soulmate, Steven Monson, and they were married on December 16, 2024. In that time, Kristyna and Steven welcomed two more sons: Asher James in 2022, and Malakai Kayde in 2024.

For the last couple of years, Kristyna worked at Love’s Travel Stop in Fargo. She took pride in the work she did there and enjoyed her interactions with co-workers and customers.

Kris leaves behind her husband, Steven Monson; her 3 sons, Grayson, Asher, and Malakai; parents, Virginia & Darryl Monson of Moorhead, MN; sister, Emily Monson of Moorhead, MN; grandmother, Deborah Walling of Moorhead, MN; parents-in-law, Ruth and Hardy Glanzer of Christine, ND; grandfather, Rex Walling of Wasilla, AK; uncle, James Walling of Albemarle, NC; along with many great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

Kristyna was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Cecelia Orth, whom she lovingly referred to as “Other Grandma;” great-aunt, Susanne Silbernagel; cousin, Erin Orth; and grandparents, Ronald and Barbara Monson.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center with visitation one hour prior, with a luncheon to follow.

  1. All of us at Loves miss you dearly. Your smile, your kindness, your wicked wit. Rest easy and without pain. We love you so much Kristyna <3

  2. I’m going to miss you so much my dear friend. I’m glad I got back into contact with you recently. It was as fun to remember the days when we were kids. I love you Kowala! I hope you find all the happiness you deserve!

  3. I worked with Kristyna at loves for a few months and she made a great impact on me. She was so full of life and had a beautiful personality. She had the kindest heart and loved her children so much. I’ll miss the days goofing off at loves and stuffing our faces with snacks. My favorite memory was when we all put tinfoil on our heads and were talking about aliens. You will be missed greatly.
