LaMae Ione Iwen, 88, of Horace, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026.

LaMae was born on January 30, 1938, in Breckenridge, MN to Arthur Nelson and Ida Aarhus.

She spent many years working for NDSU where she met her best friend, Renee.

LaMae married Ronald Braaten and together they had two children, Pamela Sue and Jay Alan. They later divorced. She later married Gene Iwen in 1971, and they made their home in Kindred, ND, until later moving to Horace. Together they enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, spending time at the lake and watching NASCAR. She enjoyed helping at her church, spending time with her friends’ playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She loved her independence and was proud to be able to stay at home till her last days. LaMae was helpful to anyone who needed it, kind, and loyal.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Ida; her children Pamela and Jay; her husband Gene; and her sister Doris Klosetmeier.

She is survived by her sister Elaine Walberg of Colorado; grandsons Reier Goettel of Fargo and Andrew (Vanessa) Braaten of Christine, ND; granddaughter Jordan Crouse of West Fargo; as well as nine great grandchildren Ava, Jasmin, Reier Jr., Alexa, Oliver, Berkleigh, Myla, and Gus.
