Laurel Louise (Thurmer) Wegener, 71, Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on November 14, 1942 to Leonard and Irma (Strege) Thurmer in Veblen, SD and grew up on a farm near Lidgerwood, ND.  Laurel attended elementary school at Duerr #5 and then graduated from Lidgerwood High School.

On December 8, 1960, Laurel was united in marriage to Lowell Wegener at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City, SD.  Shortly after, they moved to the Twin Cities area where they lived for 10 years.  In 1975, the couple moved to the Wegener homestead near Claire City, SD and also purchased the Thurmer homestead. Laurel and Lowell enjoyed the farm life for almost 30 years until they retired in 2002.  The couple moved to Fargo in 2006.

Laurel was an active volunteer for many organizations, volunteering for several church activities, the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, and RSVP.  Laurel also donated her time at the library in Mesa, AZ where she and Lowell enjoyed the past 10 winters.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening and was an avid reader.  She was happiest when she was spending time with her loved ones.  Laurel’s family and her faith were the most important things in her life.
