The Funeral Mass for Laurence Vettel will be held 11 AM Monday, February 10, 2003, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 - 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM in the church. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday. Burial will be held in Caledonia Cemetery, Caledonia, North Dakota. Larry died on Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the Hillsboro Medical Center Hospital at the age of 82. Laurence was born on February 28, 1920, in Caledonia, the son of George and Mae (Hoose) Vettel. He grew up in this area and attended Caledonia School. He began working on the family farm and later attended North Dakota Agriculture College (AC) in Fargo. Laurence was united in marriage to Leona Sand in Ada, Minnesota, on December 26, 1945. They made their home near Caledonia. Laurence retired from farming in 1959 and returned to college at the AC. He earned his teaching degree and began his career as a teacher in Mahnomen, Minnesota, retiring from teaching in 1983. Leona passed away in September of 1997. Laurence was very active at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen as well as a member of the Knights of Colombus. Laurence was united in marriage to Edna Kritzberger on October 13, 2001, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. They made their home in Hillsboro. Laurence is survived by his loving wife Edna of Hillsboro; his son, Michael (Jacoline) Vettel of Park Rapids, Minnesota; and his daughter, Erin (Monte) Koffler of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Rhett Vettel, Derek Vettel, and Drew Vettel. He is also survived by his step children, Francis (Liz) Kritzberger of Hillsboro; Lynn (Deb) Kritzberger of Hillsboro; Peggy (Bill) Nero of Bottineau, North Dakota; Sharon (Duane) Marvick of Dallas, Texas; Bob (Annette) Kritzberger of Hudson, Ohio; Rose (Dan) Mayo of Bismarck, North Dakota; Jim (Mary) Kritzberger of Hillsboro; Bill (Patti) Kritzberger of Beulah; Tom (Cindy) Kritzberger of Beulah, North Dakota; and Ann (Tom) Conry of Portland, Oregon; 42 step grandchildren; and 20 step great grandchildren. Laurence was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Kleveland; his brother, George Vettel; and step son, Terry Kritzberger. (Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro)
