Larry Gaughan, 57, Audubon, MN passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at his home on Little Cormorant Lake, Audubon, MN. Larry was born November 3, 1962 in Moorhead, MN to Robert and Ruth (Weinandt) Gaughan. He graduated from West Fargo High School in 1981 before attending UND where he received his degree in the Engineering field. He moved to Eagan, MN where he worked for 3M and spent the majority of his working career. He loved hunting with his inseparable dogs, Holiday and Majestic leading the way. This also included spending time at the lakes, playing cards, downhill skiing and time with his family. Larry spent much of his later years courageously fighting depression, which eventually took his life. To help those battling this hard disease the family wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Association for Suicide Prevention North Dakota Chapter, https://afsp.org/chapter/north-dakota. He is survived by his siblings; Debbie (Jim) Hoffert, Rugby, ND, Linda (Bill Natvig) Gaughan, West Fargo, ND, Ralph Gaughan, Prescott Valley, AZ, Robert (Bridgett) Gaughan, Prescott, AZ, Dan Gaughan, West Fargo, ND, Cindy (Rush Waite) Gaughan, West Fargo, ND, Joe (Renee) Gaughan, Moorhead, MN, Bruce (Dori) Gaughan, Audubon, MN, Christy Nesheim, Mayville, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (2010) and Ruth (1998), sister, Barbara Johnson (1986).

  1. So very sad to hear of Larry’s passing. Condolences to the entire Gaughan family. Grew up with Larry and will miss his cheek to cheek smile. Many good times that turned to such great memories. Rest in Peace Larry.

I vividly have a picture in my mind of a whole slug of Gaughan kids up in the cottonwood tree on 1st Avenue. Not sure if Larry was up there but chances are, he was climbing with everyone. May he rest in peace.

  14. I am extremely distraught on learning about the untimely passing of Larry. I am a fraternity brother of Larry’s at UND. Larry was the person who was first in line to lend a helping hand. He was a great guy, with a big heart that left us all too soon. I will hold on to those memories of the good times with Larry as long as I can. I will, like others, miss him dearly.   18. I’m so sorry to hear about Larry’s Passing.
    When we were in 9th grade we went to L.E. Berger Middle School to play Water Polo.
    The Goal fell in the water and my foot got tangled in netting and down I went. I started to panic and then Larry and Greg Haas got my leg out just in time. I’m glad he was there to help me.

One time, hanging out in Elmwood Park with Larry (7th grade), I said “what do you wanna do?” “We could wrestle” “ok” I said. In no time flat I was on my back…123 PIN! I remember he had a wry/coy smile and a look in his eyes that made you say to yourself “what are up to Larry” “what are you thinking about” “what a cool guy”. RIP

Then over the next 3 decades I would see Larry at social events and out on the town, since I also lived in the Twin Cities for many years. I will have and keep warm memories of Larry.
