Lawrence Olmstead
May 28, 1949 ~ July 7, 2024
Lawrence (Larry) James Olmstead of Casselton, ND passed away Sunday, July 7th at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, ND with his family by his side. He was 75.
Larry was born May 28, 1949 to John and Sarah (Briski) Olmstead in Grand Forks, ND and raised in Forest River, ND. Larry enlisted in the Army in 1967 and joined the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam and served our country to the extent of receiving a Purple Heart. From that point on he was never a man to let grass grow under his feet and enjoyed many adventures while living in North Dakota, Alaska, and Washington. Larry’s true passion was flying and was determined enough to fly his Cessna plane from Yakutat, Alaska to Hope, North Dakota to get his plane home. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, motor cross, and drag racing with his son, Dennis. He loved spoiling and spending time with his grandkids and will be deeply missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Patricia Vold, Henry Olmstead, Robert Olmstead, and Timothy Olmstead; and son, David Olmstead.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Bernadette) of Fargo, ND; sister and brother-in-law Alice and Orvin Johnson of Lake Park, MN.; grandchildren Austin Olmstead of Fargo, ND, Makenzie Kotchman of Fort Novosel, AL, and Cloe Olmstead of Fargo, ND; along with many nieces and nephews.
Larry did not want a funeral. Instead, his ashes will be buried at Fargo National Cemetery in Harwood, ND on July 19, 2024 with Military Funeral Honors at 2:00 PM.
