Lena P. Detling was born January 1st 1930 in Selz, North Dakota to parents of Matt and Mary (Fix) Detling. As a girl, she attended school in Selz, and Manfred, North Dakota. Lena worked in Harvey, North Dakota Hospital and Manchester Biscuit Company in Fargo, North Dakota. On June 22, 1953, Lena was united in marriage with Aloys (Al) Walz. They moved to a farm in Mahnomen, MN Oct 1957. The couple enjoyed 52 years together and had 3 children. Lena was admitted to the nursing home in Fargo in 2011 where she remained a resident of the Meadows Nursing Home. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, crocheting, sewing, quilting, playing cards, bingo, puzzles and Yahtzee. They loved going on trips, visiting with relatives, and enjoying the scenery. Lena is survived by her two sons. Eugene (Nancy) Walz of Lake Mills IA, Steven (Corinna) Walz of Lockridge IA, Grandson Adam (Jessica) Walz Minneapolis MN, Grand daughter Nicole (Jerett) Lettner of St Paul MN, Step granddaughter Susan Heppler of Boise Idaho, Step grandson Eric (Kathy) Bell of Austin MN, step granddaughter Angela (Kent) Fulton of Madisonville, TN, Jeremiah Weigert of Moscow, Russia, 10 step grandchildren and one step great great granddaughter. Lena is survived by her 6 brothers Joe (Shirley) Detling of Mound, MN, Matt (Lois) Detling of Bismarck, ND, Harry Detling of Manfred, ND, Gary (Betty) Detling of Bismarck, ND, Ned (Jackie) Detling of Mitchell, NE, Bill Detling of Denver, CO and her 3 sisters Burga (Orville) Smestad of Valley City, ND, Clara (Gerald) Elhard of Fargo, ND, Loretta (Joel) Graumann of Fountain Hills, AZ and sister in law Crystal Detling of Billings, MT. Lena was preceded in death by her parents, husband Aloys Walz, daughter Karen Walz, brothers Sebastian, Manuel, and Leo, sisters Ann Sauter, Betty Frober, and Grace Thueringer.
