Leo James Welk, 86, peacefully passed away on March 30, 2023, at St. Catherine North in Fargo.
Leo was born April 6, 1936, to John and Barbara (Welder) Welk in Hague, North Dakota- the seventh of twelve siblings. He graduated from Hague High School in 1953 and attended Ellendale Teachers College. Upon completion, he taught in a country school for one year and then joined the army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. After his military service, he attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. Leo began his working career as an accountant at Pioneer Coffee Company in Moorhead, MN. In 1958, he joined Construction Supply Inc. in Fargo and retired as president in 1995, but continued working part time until he was 75. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Shanley GROW, the Knights of Columbus Council, Lions Club, Construction Exchange and a lifetime member of the Elks.
Leo married Kay Radermacher on November 12, 1959. Together, they made their home in north Fargo. Leo was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved playing pinochle, dancing, golfing and happy hours.
Dad was a kind, thoughtful and fun-loving person who enjoyed sharing stories with his kids and grandkids. We loved him and will miss him dearly.
Leo is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter Julie (Greg) Lindberg and children Michael, Anne and Ryan; daughter Susan (Robert) Koch and children, Kelsey, Katie and Kalley; son Jim (LuAnn) and children Jared (Steffanie), great-grandson Lucas, Laura (Matthew) Thom and Joseph; son Steve (Jennifer) and children Megan and Matthew; brothers Donald and Francis and sister Ann Fitzsimmons and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Nancy; and siblings Alouis, Clarence, Eugene, Alfred, Joe, John, Herman and Sally.
Memorials are preferred to St. Catherine North and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Leo was a good man for I worked with him for about 30 years. He was always black & white but always fair. There are a lot of memories I have of Leo, some I can’t share on this forum. He was quick witted with a good sense of humor and was thorough in training me into the business. I have the utmost respect for Leo & always will. RIP Leo
